robin van persie (continued)

We didn't need him but I didn't want him to go to them seems to be the views of most blue's, which I agree with.

One thing people need to realise is we can't just buy players to stop others getting them. No doubt Van Persie's a quality player and he'll turn out to be a good signing for them in the short-term. But looking at this deal ignoring how important he may be to either team or whatever, they've paid £24million pounds and £220k a week for a player who is 29 and was in the last year of his contract. They've been ripped off and people wouldn't be happy on here if we had agreed that fee with them - well I know I wouldn't be anyway.

We are to blame, our rise to the top has hurt them, they have had to get rvp no matter what the fee. It's the only chance they have now of hood winking the plastics. Cue shirt sales.

Just to add, this is another sign that Bacon Face is going off his head and not thinking straight.

This signing stinks of a panic up as it goes against everything he's ever done and believed in the past.

I hope we drive another nail in his coffin, if we win it next season it'll hurt him even more than last..............

I'm not sure how signing the best striker in the Premier League last season, and teaming him up with a top quality player like Rooney, can be described as 'not thinking straight'. Put it this way, before United signed Van Persie I'd have described us as strong favourites for the title, whereas now it's a 50-50 call. Ferguson knows he has to win the title back next season, or we will become uncatchable. Cracking signing for them imo.

It was a flippant tongue in cheek statement as it goes against everything he's done in the past.

I've said in the past that his movement off the ball is only second to Aguero from what I saw last season, I just think they need to strengthen in other areas, that's all.

He's put all his eggs in one basket, which is interesting, but we'll see?

I just noticed something.

Not only did they sell their captain and star to their worst rivals, they also negotiated an add on where if United win trophies Arsenal will get 1.5 million pounds more :)

Hows that not a smack in the face on arsenal fans i dont know. their club will be happy if united win trophies :=)

this cant be true...any credible sources? or any source at all? this is mindblowing...

Can't see this being allowed, conflict of interest comes to mind.
i Read it on Arsenal mania,

22.5 million, four years contract, If United win a trophy under these four years, Arsenal will get 1.5 million more in add ons

You cant make this shit up.

Think on. £70m is a seasons transfer budget. It's putting a lot of eggs in one basket, and it means if it doesn't work they can't go and splash out again in january or next Summer.

Ferguson knew the gap was opening up and he had to act. Strange bids all Summer from fergie

1) hazard. How many wingers do they want
2) Moura. See above and £30m for a teenager?! I wish they'd done that deal

he seems to have been casting around for almost anyone. Gone is the careful considered planning.

I agree. Ferguson knew the gap was opening up and he had to act, and he has. In my opinion, Van Persie is very under-rated on here, and City fans who are happy that he's signed for United need to be very careful what they wish for.

It's a short term solution, and uncharacteristic of United, but it goes to show just how much us winning the league last season hurt them. Ferguson is desperate to get the title back before he can retire.

They're going to be unquestionaby stronger this season with van Persie, Kagawa and Vidic back. Given that we only won the league last season on goal difference, I imagine it will be extremely close again this year. Not that I'm worried - I relish the challenge.

You shouldn't underestimate the importance of having a fully fit, committed Tevez back, and if Balotelli can reproduce his form from the Euros then we have a formidable array of options up front.

Let battle commence.
