I don't beeeeeelieve it!!!

Think this is a big mistake by us and will bite us on the arse!

Rooney and RVP!!

We might hold them out but i dont think many other teams will!!

And before anyone goes on about our strikeforce just look at sunday we totally dominated did not score then Chelsea had one chance which fell to Torres who smashed it the net!

We could done with a one chance one goal striker like RVP!

Dont normally do this but I hope RVP gets injured against everton next monday night!

I'm sorry mate, I have to disagree.

Just because the scum now have last years 2 top goal scorers up front does not mean they will guarantee the league and knock in 5 goals every game.

Look it at it this way, you could pretty much win the league winning every game 1-0. My point is, the most important part of the team for me is the defense, Uniteds weak link for me is their midfield and ageing defense, so they have not just become this ultimate force overnight.

Lets say RVP and Rooney score 50 between them in the league, Messi scored that amount on his own last season yet Barcelona did not win the league, and the amount of times I saw them knock 4 or 5 past teams in La Liga last season.

Both City and Untied have a great strikeforce, for me its going to be about goals conceeded that consider where the title goes this season.

Real just won the league, they have bought Modric.

Chelsea won the CL and FA Cup, they have signed Hazard, Marin, Oscar, De Bruyne and are still looking for a RB.

Bayern finished runners up in CL and have bought Martinez, Mandzucic and Shaqiri.

Juventus won their league, unbeaten I may add. They are looking to sign a striker and have already strengthened with a few players like Lucio for example.

Why should we be different?

This ^ (although I suspect you'll get FFP quoted at you - but which could be construed as Marwood's apparent incompetence in negotiating and persuading)
This is a masterstroke by Slur Alex - not something to celebrate because he's the ripe old age of only 29 or, even more pathetically, in the hope he gets injured.

the sky is falling! the sky is falling!

Lets see how things play out. Rooney and RVP could be prolific up front but may also need a lot of adjusting (see Drogba/Torres).

I see a lot of journos simply adding the two players goal totals from last year with breathless excitement, but they were the apex of the team's attack in both cases. I suspect their total this year will be a bit less than their combined last year. Not to mention it was a monster year for RVP one that would be hard for him to repeat no matter where he ended up.

The deal almost seems a knee jerk reaction to the whole losing on GD. I honestly think they'd have been wiser to sign Baines and a quality CM, but what the hell do I know.

Van Persie moving from Arsenal to the rags won't effect us too much imo. The player stays in the league at one of our main rivals. Rags problem last season wasn't really scoring goals, it was conceding them and losing midfield battles against hard working and technically adept teams like Newcastle. This is a transfer which, whichever way you look at it, smacks of desperation on their part to be seen to be reacting to losing the league to City. Personally I look forward to City winning the league again and the drunken Scot's subsequent resignation.

The team with the best defence usually wins the league. This is why we urgently need to buy a top quality centre back to replace Savic.

We had the best defensive record in the league last season. I fully expect us to have the same again this season. Cover for VK/JL would be nice, but isn't imperative whilst KT is still in the squad. I'm sure that if he's sold, then that will be because we have a replacement lined up. It would be a shame to sign someone who pushed JL to the bench. Him and VK deserve another season as our first choice pairing IMO.

I think we need to keep Rolo Toure and add a top quality centre back. Richards is an injury risk, Savic is a disaster risk and we need, IMO, two top back-ups to VK and JL. Rodwell could play CB but has been signed for midfield.

I agree that it would be harsh for JL to lose his place to a new boy but that should not come into the thinking in terms of strengthening. JL and VK are a very good partnership so
I think anyone else will have to play very well to dislodge either of them. However, we need to be able to rotate more often and we will probably use 3 at the back more frequently so there should be plenty of game time for our CB's.

For me it set's the season up nicely, we have improved as a squad, know each other better etc.
Utd have pushed the boat out to ensure they do not lose ground to us and Chelsea i think will be very strong this season.
It is set up for a right old ding dong at the top.

We never needed him and tbh as said here nor did utd really when you consider their back line needing at least severe depth adding.
A slight panic buy ? possibly for more than just footy reasons ? i dunno.

I have spoken to a few reds today and they are happy with the signing but do worry about the back and defensive midfield. The fact the gunners are frothing at the mouth though is worth every penny to them.

Spot on.

I am happy they signed him rather than say Fellaini/ Modric and Baines.

-- Thu Aug 16, 2012 1:35 pm --

Everything about RVP's move to scum goes against everything bacon has sprouted before, he is desperate, WE are not. We will add players in time, we are here for the long haul, bacon isn't. If i was a scum fan i would be bloody worried, bacon is putting his own personal dismay of last season ahead of what he is going to leave when he goes. I am not wishing RVP an injury because he signed for them but i would not have been happy if we had paid what they have for him when you consider everything

This signing means Utd will now beat the weaker teams 4-0 rather than 3-0. It doesn't necessarily mean they will beat the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham as those 'top 6' games come down to midfield not strikers.

I just had a bad thought. People saying they needed a CM, maybe Rooney will be that CM and they will play RVP up top. Looking at their line up they have improved.

Carrick---Kagawa---Rooney

Nani----RVP--------Valienca
