When Adam Johnson was convicted, I’m adamant some outlets went with “former Man City” when the offences took place as a Sunderland player.
Hardly conclusive proof but this search shows the headlines vary from "Ex England" to "Ex Sunderland" some articles link him to both Sunderland and City, some just Sunderland-none just City.

If you search "ex city Adam Johnson sexual assault" you get the same search results except one from the MEN at the bottom who's headline does indeed say "Former Manchester City Winger Adam Johnson" perhaps because their news is given with a Manchester tint?

This thread on BM does have people claiming the headline will be "ex city" but no actual examples of it. on Page 3 Dan Roan is reported to have tweeted "@danroan: England & Sunderland footballer Adam Johnson arrested on suspicion of sex with 15-year-old schoolgirl"
