Brazil striker Robinho is eyeing a long-term stay at Santos after receiving a rapturous welcome on his arrival on loan from Manchester City.

"My goal is to stay for a long-time," the 26-year-old said. "If the president wants to extend my contract to four years that would be great."

Robinho, who has re-joined his first club on a six-month loan, arrived by helicopter with Brazilian legend Pele.

Some 15,000 fans turned out at the Vila Belmiro stadium to greet the star duo.

Pele, who scored 474 goals for Santos, is also keen to see Robinho extend his loan period.

"I hope this passage is not merely for a few months but that it's permanent," said the club's biggest idol. "I hope Robinho recovers (his form) for Santos and the national team."

Robinho, who cost a British transfer record £32.4m when he arrived at City from Real Madrid in 2008, is hoping to secure his place in the Brazil side for the World Cup after falling out of form and favour at Eastlands.

"I have my objective of going to the World Cup and being at my best at the World Cup," said Robinho, after receiving his former number seven shirt from Santos president Luis Alvaro Ribeiro.

"I believe this can be my World Cup. In the national team competition is very big, there are a lot of good players and that had me worried."

Robinho, who scored 83 goals in 190 matches for Santos between 2002 and 2005, hopes to make his debut in the "Classico" against Sao Paulo in the Paulista championship on Sunday.

and im sure hes not the only one that wants it permanent. the sooner hes gone for good the better.

i hope were not going to just right off his transfer fee because santos are not going to be able to afford anything near it

So predictable. He will get bored in Brazil after 6-12 months then moan about wanting to move back to Europe. I predict he will end up at some mid-table team in Spain. Will be suprised if he comes back here.

Well he can stay for all I care as long as we won't allow Santos to take us for mugs and give them Robinho for nothing.

Certainly Robbie lad, stay there as long as you want as long as you and your Brazilian mates can raise £30million.

On the off chance that doesn't happen (I know, shocking), how's about you keep your mouth shut so that you don't get lynched when you come back?

He just turned out to be a moaning weasel. Who the fuck needs a little princess lapdog........... We've got Bellers and Tevez who've got enough heart to start a transplant wing, and Ade's is better than Drogba, so let's hope Veira can teach Ireland how to harden up his game and have Johno on the right to fire in spit balls to Ade. We should be doing 6 goals a match with this combo. All will be well as long as the back 4, any four actually, any 4 of 12 plus we've played can gell like jello.

There is no way they can afford to keep him there and there is no chance of us writing off 32.5 million. Personally if we do hit 4th and go in after some top players from top european teams, i can see him being used as part of any deal. Ie if we go for Ribary, be cash + robinho etc.
