There is no way they can afford to keep him there and there is no chance of us writing off 32.5 million. Personally if we do hit 4th and go in after some top players from top european teams, i can see him being used as part of any deal. Ie if we go for Ribary, be cash + robinho etc.

What happens[legally] if Robinho says he's staying put in Brazil, but Santos can't afford to pay the full price for him?-----

he is bound to a contract. if he fails to fulfill it, he is liable to compensate us. we could sue him for every penny. and in theory, FIFA could ban him from playing for any club.

I guess so----but would he pay us £32 million back?----Given his behaviour and attitude can't see any other club[in europe anyway]--- that would be willing to fork out that sort of money for him. No doubt he will continue the great City tradition of taking a hit on our transfer dealings!

Ps Did we get any dosh for Bianchi?

Obviously Robinho will be sold. We cannot tolerate his return once his current loan spell ends in 3 months time.

Santos will try to extend the loan. Unless Cook is completely stark raving bonkers, this will be rejected. Remember, if press reports about the Santos loan arrangement are true, we are still contributing 50% of his pay during this period. Clearly, this cannot be allowed to continue.

Either Santos will be told to make a cash offer or a cash + player(s) offer or a player(s) swap.
If none of these are forthcoming from Santos management, then we have to look elsewhere to dispose of him.

The most I think we could reasonably expect to get for him would be around £20m. If he were to remain in Brazil and an acceptable bid were to be made, it would be one in instalments paide over two to three years.

We are not paying his wages. He had to take a paycut and Santos came up with the wages through sponsorship.
