Pretty sure people will be laughing at this thread in a years time.
One way or another, that will likely happen.

I am just in the camp that it will be because he has become a pivotal, exceptional player in our team.

The greatness of the fans game is surely that one person will look at say Balotelli and see the greatest player since Ronaldo (the Brazilian one) others will see a talent but no intelligence. Others see John Stones as the new Beckenbauer others see him as a poor Jonathan Woodgate.
I see Rodri and am underwhelmed .I expected much more to be fair. We shall see...

Rodri is "very good in his position" yet "needs players round him with energy" and "a team around him to make it work"?

Fuck me sideways.
What exactly do you want Rodri to do?

He is very good in his position, bit like how Messi is very good in his position but the team around him is shit so thats why Bayern put 8 past them.

Messi funnily enough needs players with energy in the team and not plodders like Roberto and Vidal etc.

As everything I would have said in this thread has already been said (mostly in response to criticism of him), I will just say I remain confident Rodri is a great addition to our squad and is just going through the same “first season pelters” that many in our squad received (including David, Yaya, and Vinny).

I think many are are still rightly frustrated with our CL exit, especially in the manner we exited (as am I), and are just placing far too much blame on Rodri and a few other players. Some will likely temper their opinions over the next few weeks; some have questioned Rodri from nearly the beginning so will likely not.

But I think we’ll ultimately look back on him in a similar way that we do Dinho as long as we fully sort out the defence this summer and don’t continue to play systems that prevent forward pressing, as was the case on Saturday (otherwise anyone we put in his role is going to struggle relative to our lofty expectations, as even Dinho has in the past in similar situations; Kante would have struggled on Saturday, to be honest).

It was clear Yaya and David Silva were class acts from day one. The only issue was would they fit in with so many new signings in such a short period of time, it didn’t work out for Boeteng for example

There has been question marks over Rodders since pre season! He doesn’t foul players, can’t run, can’t close down and is generally well short

He’s our record signing and to say anything other than he’s not lived up to the price tag(whilst the tag isn’t his fault) would be widely inaccurate

I guess I remember the supporter reactions during the first year of their tenures differently.

I remember a lot of “he’s not good enough”, “he’s too small for the Premier League”, “we’ll never win anything with him in the side”, “he was never an attacking midfielder at Barca, why would he be here”, “I wish we had pipped the Rags for that promising young lad from Watford”, and “Chris Smalling will win more trophies than him, FFS”.

;-)

You're now comparing him with Messi.

I'm out.
