I do remember being impressed by Nunes in a deeper role when we met Sporting in the CL a couple of years back. Only worry is that if there were any chance Pep wpuld have tried him there already.

4 2 3 1 with a rotation of Gundo, Kova, Lewis and Nunes in the 2. I don't think any one player gives us the same balance as Rodri so I'd change the system. Means we have 6 quality mids to squeeze into the 3 though with KDB, Foden, Jack, Bernardo, Savio and Doku.

I would play Kev there with Phil and Bernado. Rico and Stones as 2 of the back four.

Great shout, one I would try, feisty and when he is, a very good option in there.

Whatever the solutions Pep will be on them and I am sure some will be leftfield, that's what makes him so special.

Bernardo can play anywhere. Rico will be very useful as well and I think Jack can do a job there too.

Double pivot with 2 of Kova/Gundo/Bernie. I'd also experiment with Phil there in some scenarios to see if it's viable to add more dynamism to the buildup.

Against lower teams in cup games, Jacob Wright could give decent mins.

I like Nunes' transitional game but prefer him a bit further forward.

Plenty of options. None of them can do what Rodri does as well as him. No one can.

But the days of us being significantly weakened by taking any one player out of the side, have long gone.

Our win ratio drops enough to suggest others will have to step up , he is definitely our most important cog in the wheel and without him our back four will be more exposed , I have little doubt we would have beaten Arsenal last Saturday and obtained a 5 point gap on them early on which would have put them already under undue pressure if he played out the game injury free.

In saying that , we can manufacture a title winning side as we proven in the past notwithstanding Gundy , KDB , Grealish , Berinie and Walker and Dias are past their best.

We certainly cannot afford anymore season ending / Long term injuries given how small our squad is.

The likes of Nunes and Kovacic will have to step up and justify why we wanted them
