Roger Waters/Pink Floyd

Just listened to Dark side of the moon for the first time. What the actual fuck. Can some explain why it’s considered a classic.

It’s shite.

Because it's full of brilliant songs that have passed the test of time.

Because once upon a time it was in the charts forever and has sold over 25 million copies.

Because people still flock to see the songs played live.

Because the songs till get played daily on US classic rock stations and are therefore listened to a dn enjoyed by millions of people every day.

Because it keeps getting voted into the lists of the greatest albums of all time.

Because it has one of if not the most iconic album sleeves ever.

But you’ve not answered his question:)

I get all that. Hence the listen. Was expecting a lot and to me if that was released now it wouldn’t sell 10k.

To be fair because I was unimpressed with the first half I only half listen to the second half of the album. Don’t feel in any rush to go back to it though.

By the way your last point is a tad ridiculous.

It made a huge impact when it was released but don't forget it's not far off of 50 years ago so I can understand anyone coming to it new today may not be quite as blown away as people were back in the 70's.

Nevertheless I would still argue that Breathe, Us & Them and Money are excellent tracks that more than stand the test of time.

38. Honestly don’t get it. And I have a very eclectic taste.

I actually agree that it’s overrated completely, and I’m a long time fan of the band. I would maybe take issue if you were talking about one of their other albums post Ummagumma, but it’s the least enjoyable one to listen to for me; too much sax, too much wailing vocal, songs which are good but not special, and pale with overfamiliarity (like Money).
