Romeo Lavia

Can either blueparrot or Coatigan can come to explain in this thread about the squad ruling?

"Club-trained" players are those who were on the club's books for at least three years between the age of 15 and 21.

I think he would get enough if we bring him back to make the list.

Does lavia count as homegrown and therefore not take up a place in the squad?

He would count as B-list/U21 but no he wouldn't take up a squad space. If he does another year with us before he turns 21, he would then count as Club Trained, and wouldn't take up one of the 21 spaces even as a senior.

So in some ways, if there was to be a return, the sooner he is brought back the better. If he's signed back after the season he turns 21, he would take up one of the 21 spaces like any other player in our squad.

Sounds like a bit of a no brainer when it's put like that, makes you think there must be some reason we haven't gone in for him.

not good enough with the ball, gets caught on it too much, and cant control a game from there as we need. at a guess. put him in next to a rodri or kova though, hes' probably fine. do we have the game time to hand hold him while he improves is the question

I do think (haven't checked), that if we were to bring him in next year, he would still make it, just. Which I would guess is why the club included the buy back for then. To give him 2 years to prove himself, and still be able to have him count as club trained. But after that, he might as well be any other foreign player.

Things have changed though, he has proved himsel quicker (probably not quite enough though) and there are other clubs interested. We would have to decide whether to jump, or accept it just wasn't meant to be.

Perhaps they thought Phillips might have shown a bit more in pre-season, and given some reason for persevering with him, and that simply hasn’t happened.

Or perhaps Phillips has accepted that he needs to move on, and Lavia is the replacement.

Or alternatively we’re not in for Lavia at all, and our name is being used to force the issue with the dippers. We’ll find out soon enough.

We’re not in for Lavia because clearly we let him go a year ago as we didn’t rate him.

Probably because his buyback is 40m and doesn't come into place until next year.
If we were to try buy him now we'd have to at least match Liverpool bid.
Not sure if you can have a sell on clause to to yourself.

If we were to match what Southampton actually want Liverpool to pay, we would be paying 40m, the same as the buy back next year.

Well 1. We have a £50m millstone in Phillips, and 2. Lavia doesn’t want to come back.
