his one season at the top level didn’t warrant a 50 mil tag, imo. It’s a big risk for clubsSeems a strange one this, there's strong interest from every top club in England but it hasn't gone any further than that with anyone. Surely if any of that interest was genuine we'd of heard more about it by now? Get the feeling his agent is very busy.
Exactly, it’s like Sancho, there’s a fear of missing out on the next best thing. Clubs like to think they can get one over City by buying a player we deemed not good enough.his one season at the top level didn’t warrant a 50 mil tag, imo. It’s a big risk for clubs

Can anyone name a player we let go that down the line we have seriously regretted after they joined another club in our league and set the world alight? We’ve never had a Chelsea and Kev situation that I can immediately think of, it just rarely ever happens.

I’ve no idea about the buy back clause but I’m guessing there’s a hefty sell on fee for us if he’s sold before the clause kicks in.Do you really think so? Some players do seem focussed on short term goals and do well from it. Tevez is the obvious example that springs to mind. Unlike Foden, Palmer or McAtee, Lavia does not have any affinity with the club that would have made him stick around on the fringes.
He obviously wants to play first team football at the highest level as soon as he can. It has been a successful strategy for him so far and I think he will have a good career but a move to a "big 6" club might stall that progress for a while as he may not be first choice.
I think he probably did better at Southampton than City anticipated and is seeking a move before the buyback clause kicks in.
With hindsight it is easy to point to the lack of success of Kalvin-Philips and say Lavia should have stayed at City but that was difficult to predict.
In an ideal world he would have spent last season on loan at Southampton rather than having a permanent move and he could be joining City's squad for the coming season or we could be banking £50M for him.
Timing is also just off for Laviahis one season at the top level didn’t warrant a 50 mil tag, imo. It’s a big risk for clubs

With City's excellent Academy, one of the released youngsters is almost certainly going to bite us on the arse.
Perhaps Trippier could be considered a mistake ?
