Romeo Lavia

Dippers supposedly had a £37 million bid rejected. They'll have to pay the £50 million southampton want as we will take 20% of the fee or very close to it anyway but with an opening bid of 37, it seems like they aren't too far off and its one that could actually get done.

If it does, have to think we fucked up with this deal. Ending up with a bit over £20 million total and him going to the dippers a year after we sell him wouldn't have been the plan.

20m for a teenager is a great bit of business. What a bizarre take.

I would imagine that City are relaxed about it personally.

The money will be welcomed and re-invested

Not really, think of it logically would his value of gone up 20m if he had remained at the club? That's the thing moving to Southampton gave him, the opportunity for the value to raise, wouldn't have happened in our midfield because he just wouldn't have played.

The thing I don’t get is that we’re always competing with Liverpool, United, Chelsea etc for the same players. Every year.

This year, we need a CM with energy in midfield, spent a lot of time chasing Bellingham, Rice, looked at MacAllister etc.

But the one player those teams want, in a position we need, that we are for some reason not at all interested in, is Lavia, a quality, home grown (as far as regs count) player in the position we need, at a price we can afford and we get a sell on % so effectively it’s cheaper for us than anyone else.

I can’t be the only one stumped by this. Is it just stubbornness? I trust Pep & co to know which players are good enough, but aside from seeing him and seeing he’s brilliant myself, I also know for a fact that Liverpool and Klopp, Pochettino and Chelsea etc know a good player when they see one - not to mention Kompany who sent him to us in the first place.

Genuinely I’m mystified!

I think it’s probably because Phillips wants to stay and fight for a place ?
