Romeo Lavia

10 million is probably cheap for a reason, it will mean a lower buyback option. The higher the fee the higher the buyback. No club will put the effort in unless the buyback is at least 10 million profit.
Exactly. Cheaper buy back if they become world class. Bigger sell on % if not….

I suspect the transfer will be very similar to the Luiz one.

An ascending price tier over a period of 2 or 3 years.

Does anyone know what the buyback price is? If not too high, it seems a decent way of getting quality playing time for lads like Lavia.

If we continue to play with a midfield 2, there is a pathway down the line with some retirees.

Gundogan is 31, and while many see Bellingham in that box to box role for us in the future to replace him, who knows, maybe Lavia will excel there in Southampton as well (box to box role) and we buy him back for Gundogan.

Even Bernie plays that box to box role for us lately, perhaps the club decides to sell him in a couple of years and that frees up space for Lavia as well.

So I think there is a chance.
Do people think that he will play regularly for Southampton?

Thinking about cheap options for my FF team

At this rate no one from the EDS would make it here. Seems like you need to have a 50m tag on your arse if you are going to succeed here.
Well we do have over 200 players in the academy. And realistically how many can we expect to get in arguably the best squad in world football? 2 or 3 I’d say. So in the region of 99% of the kids must either be sold or released.

I see it as a positive. We get our finances boosted and look at the clubs these players are joining. They are good moves, we have spring boarded their careers.

So, we'll be paying xx million to let Soton figure out if he can cut it. And, it frees up a spot for the next one. I don't see this as losing the player, just paying a little extra in training fees and expanding our options.
Perhaps it's the way your post reads but Southampton are paying us, not the other way around. Where do training fees come into it?

Mahamadou Susoho is probably the one nearest to Lavia's position. I think Shea Charles could be more of a straight defender, Could be wrong though.

Good move for all

Hes 18 and needs game time, even a balon d'or prospect in Foden didn't properly break through till he was 20

Interested to know what the buy-back clause is,say upwards of £40mil....but even that isn't really much for us

Good luck to him, hopefully we'll see him back

I'm very much in favour of moves like these, especially in positions like DM where there are fewer places available in the team/squad.

If he's as good as he's hyped up to be we'll see him in a blue shirt again one day.

He’s versatile but more a DM who can play centre half, rather than the other way around.
Played twice in midfield for N Ireland

Buyback seems high. The key issue with the buyback for me though is the length. If it's £40 million as suggested but it's only for the next 2 years maybe 3, how much is he realistically going to be worth in an open market in that time frame anyway? He would have to be an instant overwhelming success to see his value reach that in that time frame, and if we're expecting that to happen then why not just loan him out? We're just about to pay £40 million for Phillips whose English and 26.

He wanted to leave and not extend and only had a year left. So we didn't have many cards left to play unlike bernardo where he has 3 years left and we have all the cards despite what barca say!

I wonder if we have a sell on clause which effectively makes this 40m to 30m.
