Romeo Lavia

No,not remotely. It was the right choice for his career.

He was showing the ability a good while back to make the step up,yet he was confined to EDS football even when we were crying out for a player with his skillset. We then go out and spend 42m on a back up player who performs exactly the same role.......

Baffling decision, extremely short sighted, and one that grinds my gears.

Pep mantra is always first team experience is king

I don’t think he’s going to be overly worried about it given his record and the fact he’s unlikely to be here past two years.

The issue is that Pep doesn't rate the PL2. He doesn't care if someone has impressed at that level. It's why they have often talked about getting academy sides in the football league as per the Spanish model. But we just can't do that with our league structure. It means that players have to come into first team training and prove themselves. We see someone impressing at EDS level but we then don't get much of an insight. Gone are the days of photos through the fence and training reports from Carrington unfortunately. So we just have to accept that Pep isn't seeing what he needs to. With Lavia he also happens to be playing about the hardest role in a Pep side. A role Pep used to play, a role where he will naturally demand and expect more and one that is fundamental to how the side performs.

I get a real buzz from seeing academy lads play for the first team. They're living my dream, particularly those like Palmer and Lewis who are local lads. It's nice that we're seeing a few more involved at least, it's one thing I thought we'd see with Pep but other than Foden, it's been a slow burner until Palmer's involvement last season.

Pep isn't going to change, and why should he. But it doesn't make me any less keen to see some youngsters given a chance. I think the impact Gordon has made at Everton shows that the energy of a local lad, with fans behind him can be a huge asset. But again, our style of play is more about discipline than flair and that's generally what Pep is looking for when they play. At least we have the option to buy back, that ensures we can bring back those that make the grade, whilst enabling them to go and play football which is a fair way of managing them. Game time is the best way for Lavia to test himself.

The question really is would he have been able to play the DM role for us all season if Rodri got injured? The club obviously did not think so hence the purchase of Kalvin-Phillips.

He seems to be doing well for Southampton at the moment but will probably have issues at some point of the season and need to be taken out of the firing line. He does seem to have great potential though and has obviously made a good choice for his career.

Youth development has been frustrating lately. Delap and Palmer's progress was slowed by injury last season and Cole has already missed games this season because of this.

It sometimes seems that kids who make it are as much lucky as talented and determined. Rashford at the rags is a case in point.

Shame he didn't get more cup games, the league not too bothered we know the margins lifting the trophy comes down too and Pep needs 100% trust and high levels from a #6.

Glad to see him getting a run in the PL and getting better, PL2 would have been a complete waste for him this year.

Then it is done.
My hope is that the conversations between us already have given clear intent on both sides.
I suspect part of his reasoning was because Pep went out and bought another player entering his prime to cover the position he plays, before giving him an opportunity to build on the brilliance he had shown in the EDS.

With Rodri and Philips here, what conversations will have been had that could lead to a return?

Just scored a thunderbastard vs Chelsea

The goal will get him attention but he’s been one of the best players on the pitch vs Chelsea and United and Leicester.

This transfer might make Pep look a bit silly for not realising he’s ready, which will be great for future academy players if he pays attention.
