We got to be proactive here because if southampton goes down they'll struggle to keep him, and there will definitely be teams willing to pay more than our buyback for him.
If it's true the buyback only activates in 2024 I have a feeling we'll be suffering from success as he could already make a big move this summer.

I think this thread needs a bump now that Southampton are down because we need to make a decision about this lad. We have a buy-back clause which activates 2024 and there is about to be a fire sale on some of their players, not forgetting how much the dippers like sniffing around the St Mary’s Stadium. Personally I’m think we should get him back, he has played well and Pep would make good use of him.

I think we may live to regret that. He is still developing and is showing enormous potential, he has proven he can do it in the EPL. Remember Chelsea let Salah and KDB leave their setup.He wont be coming back here.

But would a top 6 club be able to give him the guarantee of regular football? I’m not convinced any of them could. The difference with us is that he already knows the system and he now knows that he could be used in the same position that Stones has been used in, which means he doesn’t have to view himself purely in terms of replacing Rodri.He wont be coming back here.

At City you are exposed to 60 games a season. If you can play in half you’ve done well and at 20/21 if you get that you are doing phenomenally.
I think if we are to go in for him it could hinge on what happens with Kalvin.

Clubs weigh up the options and make a decision. Sometimes hindsight proves a mistake. I think we will let Tommy Doyle go, for example, and keep H-Bellis.

Chelsea paid reasonably big money for Salah and Kev and never gave them a chance. That’s the point
