Rony Lopes

Very dissapointing and a bit of a sad indictment about how we've been ignoring our young players. We're very lucky we managed to trick Denayer into signing a new deal with false promises, but after that we had very little hope of getting Lopes to sign one. Can't blame him for leaving, other will do the same if we don't start at least giving them a chance to prove their worth. Decent fee, although could easily be made to look pretty poor if he kicks on, hopefully we've managed to put some kind of buyback clause in ther but I doubt Monaco would agree to that. Monaco are a club who are banking on buying up the best young players and giving them the chances that their currentc lubs don't.

Beginning of the season, kelichi, Rony, denayer seemed poised for 1st team, at least cup run. Shame though. Great fees

That's a huge price and yet this makes me sad. If Lopes couldn't get a proper run out I'm unsure who will get it in the future (Iheanacho maybe, but he's hardly an academy player).

He's not at the required level yet, but we won't find out how far he is from it, unless we are giving him a chance.

It really is an unbelievable fee with everything taken into account (my guess is initial fee will be muuuch lower). Still, the buzz people felt at City Live was for nothing. Although even then I knew, promotion to first team status is a bit different than playing. Guidetti and Razak were technically first team too.

If Rekik went for £4m and has a buy-back, what do you think the chances of Lopes having one?

We've been smarter about selling them, but I don't hold out too much hope.

Embarrassing really.

Really is a sad day for the Football Academy this is the one player who looed liked he would break through into the first team. Never really got the opportunity but then again when you are competing against some of the best players in Europe it is always going to be difficult. I would have hoped that a years loan to a Premier League team would have made him ready for next year but he obviously didn't want to wait and was happy to run his contract out. Also we need to remember what PL teams he would have been able to go to and actually get a run in the team with so much money at stake not a lot of teams will take the risk. However for Denayer the club should be looking at a PL club for a loan no good sending him to other leagues he needs to be ready to step into the First Team Next year or year after.

Very little I'd have thought. Monaco buy these players to make a profit, not to sell them back on the cheap. A few of the Benfica fans were claiming the same about €15m being a lot of money for an untested Bernardo Silva, but within 6 months of him being allowed to play first team football it quickly looked like a fraction of his actual value and I imagine they have the same plans for Rony. Seems ironic that we are on the verge of buying De Bruyne for £50m, after Chelsea did pretty much this exact same thing with him.

Can't blame him for going there, it's turning into a Portuguese haven and a place that gives young players the chance to shine. We really need to start showing that we are willing to actually give these players a chance, otherwise we'll be losing a lot more like this.
