these types of players need 1st team football for them to develop not reserves
unfortunately the teams at the top can't risk allowing players to make mistakes in the 1st team as they develop
there is too much at stake, they have to be high class already i.e. sterling.

Some teams do take the risk, we just chose not to. Just a few days ago Liverpool started with an 18 year old away at Arsenal and bought on another one during the second half.

The idea that teams can’t play youngsters in case they make mistakes is such a cowardly and baffling one. I seem to remember Dimichelis and Navas both making massive mistakes at the end of last season that should have led to goals, and they are two of our most experienced players.

Let’s be honest, if Sterling had signed for us as a 15 year old he would have spent the last 2-3 years going out on pointless loans and would never have been given a chance in the first team.

I’m a bit disappointed but i guess every club has a price for a player. I don’t think we were looking for this but it goes to show the impression he made in France last year. In a way it demonstrates a level of success for the EDS set up.

However - It does not look good when we have no club trained players in our squad! There will always be the risk of playing them and you have to be realistic about the level of experience an under 21 year old will have. The likes of Rony and Denayer have done the bis in decent European leagues at that young age and we should be able to find room in the squad for a couple of players like that. It comes down to how you plan ahead and manage the fringe players. Getting game time for Nacho should be given a certain priority otherwise it starts to impact the credibility of the academy. In an ideal world we will be selling a few for £ms each summer but also retaining 2 or 3 around the first team at all times.

Was here before Begiristain so he is surplus to requirements because he will not get credit for signing him and bringing him through.

Ridiculous transfer, he's 19 ffs!
