Rony Lopes

So we have bought an average player like Delph to fill the quota when we could have just promoted Lopes. So dissapointed we are letting him go.

Delph is a totally different player to Lopes.

At the end of the day he did not want to sign a new contract and looks lile we have managed to get quite a good deal. I thought he could have made it, but at the end of the day he's not ready and any game time he would get is obviously not enough for him and to develop him to his full potential. I'm sure I read Monaco are going to loan him out straight away (says it all really).

If Monaco are loaning him straight out to me this proves he is not ready,if he cannot cut it at Monaco in a Sh*t league, how the hell on earth do people expect him to cut it at City.

My point is that they are both squad players not that they play in the same position

What good is a squad player who is so far away from playing time that he'd hardly get a game? Trying to compare Delph's chances of first team football, given he's an England international with several seasons of first team football behind him, with Lopes' given he's very inexperienced and having to compete with higher quality players for game time, really isn't a sound argument.

No, I was responding directly to NK about waiting till we are a few up to bring them on, that's not development imho, as its neither a challenge for the player, nor is it giving them enough time to develop.

Bringing players through is always a difficult business, especially when you throw money at a problem like we can, we'll get there, because the younger ones now, will know they have to get there earlier to stand a chance, the challenge is big, and none of those who have left us are yet playing at a top 6 European club, which suggests they were below the level we need.

Neither united or Liverpool seem to have really achieved that recently, nor chelsea or arsenal.

Yes they have, but they signed the kids from other clubs academies instead. Walcott, Oxlaide, Chambers, all came in as kids, Fabregas, even Danny Wellbeck got games as a kid, albeit for Utd, Januzai, Wilson, Blackett etc at rags. Sterling, Jordan Ibe, now Gomez has just played a very good game out of position for Liverpool away at Arsenal. Denayer is way ahead of him in development. But we can't 'risk' him doing the same at City ?

We are just taking the easy way out.

Just having a guess but maybe it's Lopes that wants to go and city aren't prepared to let him leave next year on a free

That's obviously the case, but it's his motive for leaving which is disappointing some people (me included) on here. i.e., he reckons he's not going to get a shot in the first team.

The academy hasn’t just started, it’s been going for a long time.
Yes and it produced Youth Cup winning sides, and occasional players into a team that was generally bereft of talent until 2010 (even the first couple of years after the takeover we were short on genuinely talented players).

SWP was the only player who made it to the top from the old academy, other than Richards who we kept, you might argue Sturridge too, but he was never a regular at Chelsea, and has ended up in upper mid table with Liverpool.

That was why they did a complete overhaul of the academy, why Cassell was moved sideways, and ultimately parted company with us, along with a number of others. The real overhaul started in 2010, and Platt Lane/Carrington were replaced by what we have now, because they weren't capable of producing the talent, and why I say that we have just started.

Absolutely. I will follow your lead of ignoring selected facts to make my points.
So you ask a question which is personally abusive but don't want to see it answered?

That would fall under trolling which is against the CoC. Perhaps if you read back you would also realise the point I argued against was ability wise, not the length of their contract. No facts were ignored.

It wouldn't be an occasional subs place if he played well, it would be that for a while, then a cup game, then a starting place in some league games, then we would get rid of a senior pro to use Rony. If on the other hand, he couldn't make an impression, he would go.

This is how it is done, in most of the football world.

its good job pellegrini sees it differently

No it isn't. It is him who is out of step with most other clubs not my post which is wrong.

That is how it is done & still is to this day. It is happening right now in the Premier League & across Europe. City & Chelsea are two of the only clubs who hardly ever do it. Pretty much everyone else does.

At the end of the day, However much we'd have loved him to stay on and develop here If he wasn't going to sign a new contract I'd rather get some money for him now than waltz out the door on a free in 12 months time. People on here are acting like it's our choice to sell him, like we're actively trying to push him out the door, I'm sure that we don't want him to leave and have done everything within our power within reason to keep him but we are just trying to make the best of a bad situation and get some money whilst we can

Out of step with most other clubs who don't win anything or qualify for the champions league?

Can't disagree with that.

My question is why we failed to make him think we were a viable place for him to continue as a fotballer & how we stop that happening to others.

because they haven't the depth of squad we and chelsea have, what i mean by that is 2 players per position
albeit they haven't played yet either denayer or kelchi have been in each of the squads this season

Here ya go @BlueDeadHead, expand your mind instead of being a sad, little troll.

"This was [most of] the post I made with regards to the academy when people were foaming at the mouth at Otamendi signing;

Given all the team predictions for WBA and expectations of individual players, some drastically need to scale back their own expectations of the EDS and academy in general.

There will not be an influx of graduates to the first team each and every season. Right now we seemingly have a "golden generation" to some extent, for lack of a better term. Lopes, Denayer, Iheanacho even the likes of Evans. That may not seem like a lot but that's more than most clubs can expect to bring up and realistically challenge for a first team squad spot. Even then "graduating" to the first team doesn't mean they've "made it" it's just another step in their development to train with world class players, not play every week.

The academy won't produce a superstar every season. You invest in youth be it a 10, 12, 14, 16 or 18 year old in the hope they'll make it never the expectation that they will.

Our academy is one of the best possible places for a player to develop and make it in football. Be that for us or someone else; Trippier, Mee, Facey, McGivern, Logan etc all have legitimate careers in football despite very little if any first team experience with us. Our youngsters won't just look at our first team and think "I'll never get in there, I'm off" because there's not a straight turn over of 11 for 11 from the EDS to the first team every year. They'll want to be in the best environment to develop and perhaps make it elsewhere, and take advantage of City's connections and go on loan akin to Denayer, Lopes and Rekik who all got a move to Champions League teams. How many youth team players around the league get those chances? They're realistic. Yes they will sign for us in the hope they can play for one of Europe's biggest teams but they'll also realise they're in one of the best possible to develop and carve a career out elsewhere.

I understand Denayer perhaps wanting to go elsewhere, on loan I would imagine if he's fifth choice this season. For most clubs they have one Denayer, that one prospect that they promote at a time. Plenty thought Rekik would be starting for us by now. However, those saying to close the academy (over dramatic on purpose I imagine but genuinely said today) youth doesn't stand a chance are beyond stupid and/or have ludacris expectations. If City can produce one legitimate first team player or squad player every other year or so we're laughing. If they can produce players capable of commanding decent fees for decent teams then even more so. This current crop are an anomaly that has seemingly skewed people's expectations.
In this instance I personally feel Lopes has shown more than enough to merit a chance and again believe that he's not only capable of getting a match here and there but also taking that chance with both hands. Which is why I find it disappointing, I don't find that an unrealistic expectation.

Yes he's gotten a great move but Lopes is/was one of our prospects primed for the first team imo and it's sad to see how it's played out."
