The fact that he's only got a year left on his deal makes the idea that this is a loan either extremely stupid from our end or total nonsense and Pellers mispoke.

What they should do is offer him a new contract but with a decent transfer clause in it. Give him a 5 year more money but a £8M clause where if any club stumps up with that fee then he can leave. Obviously this should be increased periodically at a set date to fall in line with his development.

That was largely due to him not having any sell on value. I'm sure we had structured a deal where they'd pay a fee if they signed him permanently though (a la Barry with Everton).
