Ross Barkley

Not sure why we're messing about with Fernando given that he recently signed a new deal at Porto and will now cost us a big fat transfer fee. Would far rather we went all out to get Barkley, regardless of cost. Letting him go to a rival club like Chelsea or the rags would be a huge mistake. He's the must have signing of the summer for me.
Different types of midfielders so not really fair to compare.

True but do we really need another physical all rounder in the mould of Yaya and Dinho when we already have those two?

I totally agree with EB ... they only way I can see the sense in signing Fernando is IF we're offloading two central midfield players (so Javi and Rodwell) and we bring in Barkley too. Otherwise bringing in Fernando for Rodwell really for me doesn't change the nature of what we can do in midfield, simply gives us another body which of course will help Yaya/Dinho but Javi Garcia's emergence towards the end of this season has also given them that.

For me we have enough physicality with Fernandinho, Yaya, and Garcia. We need a little more guile, some more athleticism and agility, a little more pace in the middle. Fernando, with the best will in the world, is like Javi. He's slow. Not as slow as Javi but slow enough that in the PL it's going to take time before he settles and even then he won't be providing anything which Fernandinho, Garcia, and Yaya don't already.

Bill don't foget Yaya is likely to miss 5 weeks with the AFCON so we do need some kind of quality cover

January/February is usually where the season starts to pan out as all 4 competitions are in action

Do you think he might retire from International Football after the world cup?

Fingers crossed mate. I would imagine he has been hanging on for the World Cup in Brazil as one final bow out before he hangs up his boots.

Great news for us if thats the case.

I think it would really only happen if Barkley pushes for a move - I personally think he's at the right club and with the right manager to develop and play lots of games next season, if he comes to City his opportunities may be limited. No doubt he's a real exciting talent.

We could do a deal with Barry and Rodwell going the other way (apparently Everton have to pay us £2.5m if they sign Barry or a permanent deal - it was in the loan agreement)

Agree he doesn't need to leave everton he has a manager who trusts him and allows him to steadily grow a s a player, mistakes are part of that. He's an everton fan and he is playing all the time, why would he want to leave to sit on the bench. He earns a lot aswell

He's definitely at the right club right now, for one more season.

Sign him now, loan him straight back for a year, he'll come to us when Yaya is 32 and needs to start playing fewer games. He'll have played 2 seasons of premier league football, 1 World Cup, 1 season in Europa league, and he'll be ready to come into City's squad and make a real push to become a world class player, which going off this season, he definitely has it in him to be.

Sign him up City, please!

CTID.

I would put Ross Barkley in the same bracket as Luke Shaw. Both have a potential but both still have a lot learn in becoming one of the best in Europe in their postions.
