I reckon the club know he will go in the next couple of years and just want to make sure they get top dollar for him
Surely McCarthy has got another few years left given he only signed last season?

Of course City would be interested in a player like him, but United, Arsenal and Chelsea would all be ahead of us in his preferred options.

More money. McCarthy is still on a relatively low wage in comparison to his performances, which Everton, quite rightly, considered excellent last season.

Good move by them especially with the rags potentially sniffing around him
