For the Rooney comparrisons, it has to be mentioned that Rooney was 16/17 when he broke through, Barkley is 20. He's not in the same talent bracket as Rooney was, but it would be hard for him to not have a better attitude. I still can't believe how little Rooney improved as a player. Still a long way from the finished article imo, if you are going to be a number 10 then you have to have a great end product, either scoring goals or sublime passing and Barkley doesn't have either yet.
It'll be interesting to see where he is after another year under Martinez, as he needs to be playing every week and improving. He plays in the most competitive position in the team, where all the best attacking players want to play, so he needs to improve before we can really afford to play him week in, week out. At the moment he'd probably be our 4th best number 10, behind Silva, Yaya and Nasri, maybe even Jovetic as well
