Rotherham (FA Cup) Post Match Thread

He’s developed physically and has very much improved his ability to win the ball or keep the ball through his increased strength, he’s always making good runs.

He’s not kicked on massively and he might never do so but he’s a young lad and my point about all those other strikers is pertinent because, like I said, of all the world’s top strikers of the last 10-15 years only Higuain and Rooney were at the top level playing for a top side and only Benzema and Kun were playing so well that top clubs wanted to sign them. All the others developed between the ages of 22-24.

Also Jesus has stated that the World Cup has knocked his confidence:
“That elimination of ours was a blow for all of us, especially for me.

“I went to the World Cup as a key player and I ended up not scoring. It affects you.

“I was scarred by that. People will always remember Gabriel who did not score in the World Cup.”

At 21 with the weight of the Brazil nation on you and Brazil playing as a bunch of individuals and Neymar and Coutinho greedily taking shots from outside the box and ignoring that Gabriel was on the pitch has not got out of his system yet.

Give him time.

21 is not an age for a #9 to have the expectation City and Brazil have on him unless you’re already a wonder kid.
Just don't see it happening mate. We need a striker in anyway as Kun is nearing the end of his time here.

Raz is almost becoming the first name on the teamsheet. A bit awkward today when he scored and we couldn’t sing his song. Need a new song for Raz, without which I don’t think we are the same side. So many great players but Raz is becoming something special.

Totally agree with the above but whether we should continue with two strikers whilst he is developing is still open for debate as he does miss too many chances and I don’t think from what I have seen that he has that talent that Aguero showed on Thursday to score a goal out of absolutely nothing.

Bloody Leroy Sane.......!!!! Had a fiver on 6-0 @ 9/1.....Must Grumble, but that said he won me a few shekkels on Thursday

Come on his crossing and distribution was woeful.
Lakey was saying what I was thinking on commentary.
Good win but he wasn't good.

So far apart from a couple of cameo appearances he has been hugely disappointing. That attempted cross with his right foot today was dreadful. He must be a defender`s dream to play against when we play him on the right, as he`s so predictable.
At least the positive from that flank was Walker`s performance. Played on the front foot and provided most of the threat from that side of the pitch.

Oldham next, please.

My point was about refs making up rules as they go along and this was another example

I know mate. My point was that I reckon it could have been the two managers who agreed and asked the ref to blow dead on 90 mins, not the ref himself deciding to play no added on time. Was a bit gutted myself, wanted to score 8 to beat Spurs score and because I've never seen us score more than 7

At the same age Lewandowski was playing for Lech Poznań and Allardyce was looking to sign him for Blackburn, Cavani was playing for Palermo, Suarez was playing for Ajax, Firmino was playing in midfield for Hoffenheim, Lukaku had been binned off by Chelsea and was on loan at West Brom, Ibrahimovic was at Ajax... none scoring that many more or less than Gabriel Jesus is for City.

Apart from Gonzalo Higuain (Real Madrid, starter at 20) and Wayne Rooney (United started at 19) no other striker (proper #9) at 21 year’s old was at a proper top club, Benzema and Agüero were two others who were banging the goals in but at Lyon and Atléti. and most of the ones who are top players now had not even really been heard of yet.

Gabriel Jesus might stay at the quality he is now, never really making it at the top level like Balotelli never did... but he might also improve between the age of 22-24 and end up being one of the best in the world.

At his age in his position, it’s very hard to tell.

A top post mate.
