Roughest pub

There was one in Colchester and another in Hereford that were a bit tasty. Army towns/ pubs. Always kicking off.

For 6 months I used to drink in a pub, now long gone, in the middle of the South Peckham estate. Next to a scrapyard. When the landlord has a baseball bat and a sawn off under his bar just in case you know things are afoot on a regular basis.

Used to have a cloakroom and an armoury.....it`s very eerie driving past the place now

And a special mention for The Pear Tree (later renamed The Wendover) in Baguley. It wasn`t a pub, more like a pharmacy.

I remember the Pear Tree and as you say it was a pharmacy, IIRC the Drug squad raided it, closed it down and they had to remodel it, get rid of the vault etc before they could get their licence back, it then re-opened as the Wendover.

Wasn't the Weaver where two guys ran in with guns a few years ago.
The locals responded by pulling theirs the outcome was two men ran back out and were shot dead on grass?

Not sure if it was the Flemish but the incident you are refering to was when two lads ran in with automatics that they had never fired before, the recoil jolted their arms/guns up in the air so most of the bullets went into the ceiling, there was then a small pause as they stood there like 2 lemons, no one dead and them out of ammo. Suddenly half the pub pulled out their own guns, fair play to them they ran a fair way before being gunned down.

Edit, page 3 on here says it was the Brass Handles where that happened.

The vault, remember it well. All the seats had the vinyl and foam removed, you just sat on the wooden frame. It prevented the clientele knifing the vinyl to slip their gear out of site when the Old Bill raided the pub.
