Roughest pub

The Kestril on the Lightbowne Estate was pretty rough about 10 years ago. Sadly, it's about to be demolished now.

Had some top nights in there after Michael Gomez fights
Going round the country watching him then would end up in there till about 7am!
Rough as fuck but a really good pub at the time

It always makes me laugh when people talk about rough arse pubs....I think it depends on the indiviuals perspective....e.g. if you grew up on a council estate you will have had a rough pub 99% of the time as your local!
However, it probably didn't stop you going in there....and I bet you didn't think it was half as rough as other people (ie your mates!) thought it was??

An couple of examples...just sold a house in Crumpsall and there is a big holt's pub on Crumpsall lane called the Cleveland...terrible reputatuion but I never got any trouble in there!
I also grew up on the Lightbowne estate in Moston and there was a pub called the Kestral...now that did look like the jockey lol and tbh there it was always kicking off in their! But because I knew most of the people from that area I never felt unsafe!!

Im also a big believer in when walking into rough pubs in scroaty areas, try not to look too intimerdated... thus not giving the scroats in their an advantage to take liberties with you!
Just stride in, get yourself a pint, couple of quid in the fruity, quid in the juke box and get your marker on the pool table....enjoy!

Yeah, it was fucking top in its day. A proper community place but when it kicked off, it kicked off big time. It got shit towards the end, but I had many a good time in there and some of the experiences in there will be with me until the end.

One of the first times I went in, I was about 15, and someone asked me if I wanted to buy a gun.

Michael Gomez sister runs that pub

The Admiral in Ancoats
The Woolpack in Salford
The Cricketers in Miles Platting
Billy Greens in Collyhurst
The Blackfiar, Trinity Way
The King William IV, Strangeways

There was another pub in Miles Platting near the Magpie which I think is now a community centre where I got a breeze block thrown at me in the car park while I was talking to the landlord. Anyone remember the name?
