Rover SD1.

Yes, the 3.5 Buick (Rover) engine has been used in loads of different cars from Range Rovers to the mind blowing Westfield SEiHGT, tuned by JE Engineering. It was a lovely engine, but emission regulations finally finished it off.

Actually, SD1's are becoming rather sought after, and prices are slowly rising, although it was never actually loved by critics at the time, with it's futuristic Spen King design.

I know the series one V8-S models are ultra rare and considered the most desirable for many. Funny story about that actually my Dad took collection of his Maroon 3500 in August 1979. Less than a week or so later a City Blue V8-S turned up in the same show room and he was gutted, absolutely gutted he'd missed out on the chance to own this.

Pity, I take it he is/was a blue then?

Yes mate and still is. I might mention this to him tomorrow and see if he still remembers it.

Got to love the Vitesse mate.

I had a T reg 3500 from 1985 to 1992. Cost me £1000 which I thought wasn't bad for a 6 year old car. I replaced it with a B reg Vanden Plas version which didn't last long.

Both gold.

Never owned one but the SD1 did have a piss-poor reputation for build quality. You saw some with rust in their first two years (as you did with Fiats and Lancias of the same era).

Its predecessor, the P6, was a better car IMO and more of yer traditional Rover.

Stags were and are beautiful. Still quite a few around too. Factory-fit Triumph engines were shite for reliability but quite a few were retro-fitted with the Rover/Buick V8. Someone told me the best prices nowadays are for the ones with original engines, though.
