Roy Bailey

Didn't Reid decide that the physios must be fully qualified and Roy was not, as a result he was pushed out. That's my memory of it.

If my memory serves me correctly (and it may not!) after he retired he had a sports store on the corner of Wilmslow road near Maine Road (just where the no. 53 bus stopped). I'm talking 40+ years ago so its a bit hazy!

Wasn’t that Roy Clarke?

But it was Swales who sacked Reid, not Lee, so we don't know Lee's opinion of Reid/Ellis

I just get the impression that Roy Bailey dislikes the pair for something (some things??) that he encountered with them while they were in charge

i don't know it might be bullshit but apparantly reid and ellis had a go at ian brightwell at half time during some game and apparantly ellis has twatted brightwell............i think ellis got sacked within days, reid couldn't cope without ellis, and either he got sacked at the end of the season (after finishing 5th) or walked in protest.

like i say it might be bullshit.

But then it may not be!!

I always remember reading an article years ago (can't remember who wrote it) stating that fans should never be under the illusion that a football club is one big happy family - it is the same as any other working environment where some get on better than others, some don't get on, there is envy sometimes over the difference in wages, but what really matters is that the players are all professional and put aside their feelings once they step onto the pitch.

I cannot remember when Ellis left, but I remember Reid getting sacked early into the season, as you say after finishing 5th the season before!!

Off the subject, I've had a couple of tweeted conversations with Reid and he praised City both times and slagged off Peter Swales both times!! (Reid also stated that Paul Lake was the best player he ever managed)

Back on subject, Roy Bailey is the first person I think of when I think of "City's physio" I hope he gets well soon regarding his knee op and I don't know how connected with the club he is these days, but if he were to release a book regarding his time at City........

.......it would be a great read I'm sure!!

We hadn't finished 5th, we'd just finished 9th after a quite dreadful second half to the season and an awful start to the new one.

Reid had totally ruined all of Kendall's good work by keeping/buying Redmond, Phelan, Holden, Heath at the expense of Hendry, Pointon, Michael Hughes and Allen.

If he wasn't sacked then he WOULD have taken us down that season (2 wins in the previous 20 odd games prior to his sacking).

Horton saved us that year.

Don,t forget Reid sacked Glyn Pardoe and Ken barnes as well as Roy .Having to have qualifications was not in place when Roy was sacked .It is not difficult to dislike Reid ,thats why he has had five jobs and five sackings .

My Dad was heavily involved in Local amateur football in the 70`s and 80` and was good friends with Roy Bailey.Roy lived near us in Sale and would help train the Lively Lobster pub team,i remember watching them train on Sale West school football pitches and he certainly gave an intensity to the training sessions which you wouldnt normally get at that level.
Ive recently tweeted Roy to tell him my Dad isnt well and got a lovely reply, top bloke.

Bump!!
Hey guys, my grandad is the one who brought me up to be a city fan because Roy bailey gave him tickets to see city a long time ago when we lived in Manchester. I've come in to some money recently and want to take my grandad to see city again for the first time in a long while. I was also hoping to get in touch with mr bailey to wish him my thanks and to possibly re-unite the two men. I was hoping someone might know the man and would be willing to pass him my contact info.
Thanks blues,
Ross
If anyone can help me can they please pm me.

I read somewhere also that Reid had a contract which said that he got a percentage of any transfer in or out of the club!

So he wanted to change everybody, all the time, who wouldn't!

So he had to go. (Apart from the shite football that was served up)
