Roy Hodgson

Well done Woy!!!

Would not resting players have made much difference? Could they have controlled the game more? Would it have made them work out how to score better?

The first half was fine. The second half substitutions, and lack of guidance, discipline and leadership on and off the field, turned the lsat 20 minutes into a shapeless guileless mess. That's not just on Hodgson.

And Carroll who as well as Defoe lost his place to a foetus because he's played 3 months for the scumbags.

So why didn't he start that team against Russia?

I've no way of knowing if it would have made any difference but it was a very strange move resting players after beating Wales just when it looked as though they may have turned the corner. Rooney has two good games after years of indifferent performances for England so he goes and drops him! If England lose in the last 16 it represents no progress and Hodgson should be sacked immediately.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I think Welbeck has been missed. He has a knack of scoring in tight games for England against average opponents.

Roy Hodgson gets a lot of stick on here and from a lot of people elsewhere and rarely seems to be given credit when things go well.

Nobody can complain about 10 wins in the qualifiers against albeit mediocre opposition and he managed to win the three friendlies. I know the performance against Portugal was poor but he seemed to take lessons from the three games as a whole and the team selections, performances and substitutions in the last two games have been pretty good. I know he has been criticised for bringing on Milner against Russia who was largely responsible for not stopping the ball in that led to the equalising goal but had they scored a goal without that substitution, he would have been criticised for not being pragmatic in closing down the game to secure the win. In the three friendlies, Sterling provided the assist in most of the England goals which was largely unreported by the media however Roy clearly recognised his contribution and rightly started him in the last two games. He also correctly pulled him and Kane off when they underperformed against Wales. All in all he seems to be performing well and seems to be making his selections and substitutions based on his own judgement rather than being led by the media.

Who else thinks he’s doing a good job?

Just you then :)

I have never taken to the guy, I think he is outdated and a bit of a yes man to the FA.
