Royal Wedding

Oh get you.

I love how you and the other anti-royal poster are making the opposite points.

You’re argument was extremely specific to a certain building and didn’t factor that it’s been under royal ownership for centuries anyway.

Your wider point held absolutely no ground at all.

Whatever.

Have you read their report? It’s full of holes and really isn’t credible.

Anyway. As I said. I can see the arguments for continuing the status quo. I’m not overly against that. But to say the royal family doesn’t cost the tax payer is frankly incorrect.

The holes from what I can see are security which we’ve already talked about, but I doubt it covers the rest of the costs to take it over the £1bn mark.

I know it costs the taxpayer, I’ve never argued that, but I’m happy to pay £1 a year to keep them, especially if they do improve the economy and that people around the world love them.

Yeah my mum married ‘beneath her’ when her and dad got wed. She was from a very respectable petit borgeois Christian home. My gran and grandad both used to play bridge at the golf club and have boiled eggs and grapefruit for breakfast. Sounds like my idea of hell.

My dad was from a working class family who lived hard lives in unconventional ways. Both my paternal grandparents were hard as nails. Grandad was a wife-beating, alcoholic, inveterate gambler. They used to have a really busy shop in Hulme and grandad used to frequently spunk a week’s takings up the wall in an afternoon at a race meeting. Such different upbringings socially, my mum and dad.

Their 50th wedding anniversary this year.

She did marry a Utd fan so you’re quite right ;-)

An independent consultancy called Brand Finance estimated in 2017 that the monarchy’s annual contribution to the UK economy to be around £1.8bn a year.

If true or even close then that’s over double what the sternest Republican groups claim they cost per annum.
Its really an impossible calculation though.
How does anybody know how tourism would be affected by becoming a republic ?
The most visited city on the planet is Paris and they dont have royals.

I can’t see Paris staying most visited for much longer. Absolute shithole these days. Dog shit everywhere

Don't think it really matters - if it wasn't the Royals there would be somebody else there costing us and probably contributing less.

I quite like the royals - HMQ has been the one constant through my entire life - will miss her when she has gone and depending on how they behave after that I may change my view but for now Liz is fine by me.

I agree but whilst we know or think we know that they don’t cost us anything, it’s more than worth keeping our indentity/tradition.

This is pretty much my view on this too, mate

What i find annoying is all the ones that make a superb lifestyle without doing jack.
I mean Princess Margaret, she just lived in the lap of luxury mainly at St Kitts seemingly partying and shagging film stars and rock stars
What does Princess Anne do ?
