What makes you say that mate ? Certainly not aware of me calling him out EVER for anything other than the obvious brain-farts, if you've seen something from me to indicate otherwise with regards to him, show me and I'll hold my hands up.

For now, as always, I'm perfectly happy to accept that if you play with two forward thinking, over-lapping fullbacks, if the move breaks down they're going to be out of position, that's when the rest of the team cover.
It wasn’t specifically aimed at you, but a general comment directed at the moaners.

Some on here never seem to be happy unless they’re having a groan.

I'm sorry if I caused any offence.

Dias now looking much the likelier, and cheaper, option to join City , if only because of Sevillas 'fee stance' on Kounde . but an interesting comparison article regarding both players here ....... with a little warning to City regarding Uniteds purchase of Lindelof at the tail end of it!

Good Read that

No worries at all mate, fair point and understood, I only get offended when people lose the ability to be civil on here and you've always been more than decent .

From all accounts we have been following his career for quite a while and so it's not a deal out of the blue. I was very keen on Kounde because of his age and potential - I do think he will become a superstar and probably will replace Ramos at Real next year. Probably why Sevilla are wanting a sky high price.

I do think it's important to have players coming in younger - so replacing a 32 year old with a 23 year old fits that criteria perfectly. This is why I wasn't keen on us signing Koulibaly - It would have meant going through replacing him in 2/3 years time, perhaps having another 32 year old that is hard to shift due to the contract we gave him just to get it done.

Onto Dias, admittedly I don't profess to have watched him a lot as I don't follow the Portuguese league. From what I've read and the clips out there he seems to be a really good fit. Also at 23 he probably has a bit more experience to come into a top side and still maintain his confidence and leadership skills. I know some will bang on about him not being are first choice but seriously no one apart from our scouting network & coaches know how true that is. It does make good sense to have a list of players as deals can be tricky to get over the line. At 40m plus Ota this seems a very good deal to me.

Finally, If we look at the average age of our first team now it's set us up for another five years without major overhauls so I think the club has done a really good job. Sure there have been some transfers that don't work out but that is the case for all teams - we just don't hear about it as much (unlike fans from other clubs I don't waste any time on their forums). I for one am looking forward to seeing Dias, Torres, Foden, Delap & Ake develop into core members of our squad. Happy days for me and good luck Ruben I can't wait to see you play. In the meantime it's another match day and another chance to watch Kev destroy an opponent ha!

If the release clause was 100m then it does excuse not going for him before Benfica bombed out of the CL

It doesn't excuse not getting him last summer when we desperately needed a CB and he was available for €66m and was just as highly regarded.

Also doesn't explain why they waited 2 vital weeks for the season to start before making a move, Benfica knew they were financially in trouble if they didn't win that game and would need to sell someone important months ago.

I tend to view these things a bit more pragmatically (you can read that as happy clapper if you want haha). I totally agree that last summer not getting a CB was a criminal decision. But that's gone now, the question for me was how they rectified that mistake this window. Buying two, including one who is proven in the our league, is a huge step forward for me.

The question of quality (Dias vs Kounde vs Koulibaly) is difficult to judge until Dias starts playing for us, but I'm totally convinced that he's a big big upgrade defensively on Otamendi and Stones.

We wouldn't have paid €100m for him, we weren't even paying more than £60m for Maguire. The club has a policy, they did sign a centre back, and within the money they wanted. Last season no one could have predicted Laporte's ACL injury, you cannot predict these things and just lash big money, Otamendi couldn't move last summer either (wage issue same as before, contract renewal shouldn't have been done, most will agree). This rant is pathetic

He was available for €66m last summer why are you talking about £100m?

And why are you talking about Otamendi moving or no one foreseeing CB being a problem? That's comolete bullshit. Kompany left, pep said we needed a CB, everyone on here said we needed a CB and we didn't get one and predictanly it cost us.
