Rugby World Cup 2023

In key world cup game where SA won their kicking has been massive.

Remember everyone saying the drop goal should only be 2 points after they kicked a bag-full in 1999.

The combination of Montgomery and Steyn for distance and precision was immense in 2007, but the former got zero credit here, mocked due to his first name, hair and rapid body change, despite being one of the best goalkickers ever.

What about Steyn? He sounds wank!

Interesting from Sir Clive Woodward in his article about five things he’d do to win at the weekend:

“CANNY TACTICS

This is a World Cup semi-final. All that counts is England finding a way to win. The first tactic I’d like to see from England is to continue with the drop goal. George Ford did it brilliantly against Argentina and Owen Farrell also executed it well against Fiji.

I want to see England rain drop goals down on the Springboks. If you do it properly, it’s impossible to defend. The earlier you start dropping goals, the better. It causes defences to make mistakes.

France and Ireland lost their quarter-finals because they failed to keep the scoreboard ticking in the second half.

England should have a drop goal
target of five and look at doing at least one in the first 15 minutes. They must also take the three points each time they are on offer if they win a penalty.”

I’m sure everyone other that one person on here would agree it’s a good tactic.
Just play to win now, we’re not flamboyant with the ball anyway so keep it tight with the forwards, win pens, go through the phases and just kick to victory…… hopefully

Here’s one Welshman who will be rooting for England tomorrow night.
Best of luck to you all. Good team selection and keep it tight - way to go.

They discussed this on Talksport last night. One Welshman called in to say he despised England and would want us to suffer the most pain possible, we're arrogant and need misery! He even said he once saw Will Carling at a petrol station and even the way he filled up his car was arrogant! Priceless stuff.

Another put it down to rugby being the working man's game in Wales and a posh sport in England. Said he'd support us in football if Wales were out, but never in rugby.

Goldstein and Bent don't have a clue about rugby but had wondered if there'd be more support from the home nations and Ireland because of the Lions. They thought in football there'd be less support for England.

As a Scot, I grew up supporting City, Scotland and England football teams. Lancashire and England Cricket teams. Scotland and anybody but England Rugby teams. Haven't really moved from that and I hope England get a real doing tomorrow. Sorry chaps.

Maybe its like a threat level thing, rugby is the only sport wales feel they have a legitimate chance of beating us in so they cant bring themselves to support us, its a bit like with city, we were in everyones favourite second team until we became a threat

My first memories of watching rugby were with my Scottish Grandad in his house in Chorlton. He died when I was about 8, but I will always support Scotland in rugby along with England. When they play each other I just sit back and enjoy the game, I'm not bothered either way who wins! In football I have no sentiments towards the other home nations and Ireland. In rugby I wouldn't have minded Ireland winning the World Cup and would have wanted them to if England/Scotland didn't. But the Welsh always seem to take the most joy from England's demise so I'm more than happy to see them lose despite having a Welsh surname and a Dad who supports them. Maybe it's just Daddy issues.

Pretty much the same as me but swap Scotland for Wales.

I don't know why they think we're arrogant ;)
