Gutted. We were so close and I still don’t see why the ref gave that late penalty, all the scrums were getting ugly, not sure Genge was infringing any more than theirs. We didnt deserve to lose that.

That last call was very harsh. Not sure who caused it, SA or ENG, but the ref made a very harsh call there. Four consecutive scrum penalties got SA through. Unlucky England

England did well up front, bullied the SA pack for a lot of the game, they just havent got the backs.
Horrible game to watch for the neutral, neither side creating fuck all but still, it was strangely compelling at times.
Very similar to our (Wales) loss to them in the semi final four years ago.
Farrell arguing with the officials got England on the wrong side of them and they eventually paid for it.
England had a lot of decisions go their way earlier in the game though, the ref was just shit

Sums the game up quite well for me.

England have the backs, they have just gone with a coach who hasn’t got a clue how to use them.

I thought we would get pumped so to be a couple of mins away from winning last night I will take but that last penalty decision is still baffling and will always baffle me?

Shame to lose in the last minutes to a dodgy penalty, but a fantastic effort from England with a superb game plan. Most pundits gave England no chance at all. SA changing their stand off after 30 minutes showed just how good the game plan was.

The Bomb squad was always going to change the game and the first scrum after the changes they clearly dominated and won the penalty but it felt like the subs also changed the ref and his approach to decision making and no excuses, rugby is a game of respect, he makes a call you live with it but for the life of me I don’t see that last penalty at all.

My wife is happy though so all is not lost in our household;-)

Woke up still angry about it. Knee jerk reaction to South Africa making so many changes our coaching staff felt obliged to do the same. Had them completely rattled.

Don't think our coaching staff can have watched the World Cup Final 4 years ago. Got dominated in the scrum then until Marler came on. Complete role reversal yesterday when we were doing fine in the scrum and then lost pretty much every single scrum after he departed.

Wish Steward didn't compete for that ball in the air at the end and just made it awkward. Knocked on and inevitably conceded another penalty at the resulting scrum. Can't blame him though as he was outstanding and had caught everything all game.
