Rugby World Cup 2023

True, but I think the refs have 3 group games or so each, so we've seen the majority of them.

True, 12 refs total. Barnes has 4 and hasn't done any yet. Also so does another English ref Dickson.
Someone having a rough game can be countered by having some better ones, so I'm in no hurry to bury someone yet.

Group matches are as follows:
Andrew Brace x3
Angus Gardner x3
Ben O'Keeffe x3
Jaco Peyper x3
Karl Dickson x4
Luke Pearce x4
Mathieu Raynal x4
Matthew Carley x3
Nic Berry x3
Nika Amashukeli x3
Paul Williams x3
Wayne Barnes x4

I'm inclined to think that if the refs of the Ireland and Italy games hadn't had good days, then there was something very wrong. The Georgian who did the Ireland game is very young for a ref and also expected to go onto to be one of the very best.

I haven't seen Aus-Geo and Japan-Chile, but Gardner (SA-Sco) had a pig to ref.
Raynal in the Eng-Arg game wasn't bad, but did seem to take against Arg (as someone else said, after about 30 minutes with the scrum)

Maybe the ref thought the Argies should follow the rules of the game, especially against a make shift pack and having an extra player on the pitch.

On the Carley performance, I thought the manner in which he overturned the Fiji try a few minutes from the end left a bad taste. The TV commentators seems to think it was the right call saying the Fijian having a knee down had made a double movement but I’m not sure that rule is always interpreted so strictly.

We won but the ref was fucking appalling, most have been in this world cup.
It wasnt just decisions against Fiji either, Fijians were off their feet at rucks all game, practically doing hand stands to get the ball. We should have had more cards, thats not even up for discussion & even though we ended up winning,i feel desperately sorry for Fiji.
Something needs to change with these fucking refs
I thought it was strange that Carley pinged Fiji for being off their feet at the ruck and then ignored similar offences soon after.

For me it was a great game played by two very committed teams. Credit to Wlaes for getting over the finishing line.
