How are players meant to pull out of tackles like Cane made? Any change of direction of the opponent means you might get red carded.

Was that a deserved red? Seemed really harsh to someone like me with not much rugby knowledge. It’s so quick and a fine margin and it didn’t look deliberate to me, but that’s pretty much killed the game.

By tackling lower, change of direction not in play if you tackle chest high.

I thought the same - it looked like the SA player was moving faster and initiated the contact and Kane was just advancing towards him.

That was my thoughts too but if New Zealand can create enough pressure the ref might have to sin bin a South African player due to repeated infringements. The All Blacks are battling well but it’s a massive ask.

It just seems to me that once the tackler has locked on, it’s very difficult to change direction. The SA player was slightly dipping too.

I’m sure you know better than me on it, it just seems that after a certain point, there’s no backing out.

I guess, like you suggest, the defenders will learn to tackle lower than they need to to negate the red cards over time.

It’s such a weird thing. He didn’t hurt the guy, it didn’t particularly look dangerous and for me was as much to do with the SA players change of direction and speed.
