Running thread

Wish I shared your optimism mate, i've wrote 2021 off already, cancelled 2 holidays last week.
Yep, no denying it's shit. I managed to get away 3 times overseas since March by booking last min stuff when certain places were quarantine free etc so hoping to do the same this year.

It's the conflicting info they keep giving people.
I object totally to be being ordered what to do by the scientific people. I didn't vote for them.

Anyone recommend some mid range priced running trainers. So many to choose from and dont really want to spend £100+. Do mainly road runs up to 10k and might push to doing half marathon distance in the summer when it warms up.

I do the same runs as you and recently purchased some Adidas Boost running shoes.

They are outstanding- Light and unbelievably comfortable and give you great support. I reduced my 10 k time by 2 mins wearing them. I would advise ordering a size up from what you actually are but advice on fit is avail on Adidas website.

yep....avoid garbage that you only pay for the name ie Addidas and Nike......1st choice Brooks, 2nd Assics.

I run every day.
Still feel desperate, depressed and fucked off most days.
The Goverment doesn't realise the mental health impact of this pandemic there too busy being killjoys and locking us up indefinitely.

Chin up pal, should be out of lockdown in April which is 8 weeks away. See it as 8 weeks more to smash the running and you will be looking and feeling superb in time for when you are reunited with mates and colleagues etc.

I've lost the feel good factor from running but using it to vent a lot of things and shed weight.

For the last 5 years I have only ever worn Asics. Cheshire Oaks store will do a simple gait test and advise.

Can't comment personally but Hoka One seem to be growing in popularity.

Re budget, with road running shoes you get what you pay for.

...because they are far better, particularly Nike, to get worse quality than Nike you need to shop at Decathlon ;)
Hmmm strange opinion, all the top athletes run in nike nowadays, as do most folk at any local races. I started out with asics, then tried brooks, then new balance but am now on nike and finding my running more enjoyable than ever, never had any problems quality wise with them either, Ive a pair that have well over 1000 miles done and are still going strong, would never have got anywhere near that amount from any of the asics or brooks I used. As for adidas, they make united kit ffs

I bought pair of New Balance from M&M direct last year. Running 2 5k and a longer run at weekend usually between 5-8 miles). Been great so far

F***ing freezing at 6.30 this morning. 5k at a steady 8:51 pace & avg HR of 137.
I ran from Lymm to Grappenhall and back yesterday, starting at 3:30pm, and there were light flecks of snow from my half way point. Cold, but at least dry, so pretty enjoyable. In fact very enjoyable. 15k covered.

A fully expected London Marathon rejection for me this year! Did anyone on here get a place?
Argh ffs mate, you should get a free pass with the training group you run, said to a few people I know that didnt get in, I doubt it will happen anyways.
Lots of others, available on that day, loch ness looks like a good un
