Running thread

Successful 5k run completed. First time in a couple of weeks it's been cool enough to not have to stop to walk. Now home in a sweaty mess to find the water has gone off due to a nearby water main burst. Oh well, will have to stay stinky for now #firstworldproblems

Anyone ever attempted to return used trainers due to a possible size issue?
I've started to get blisters which wasn't too much of a bother at first, but my right big toe now has a discoloured nail and is very sore (not sure if its a blister under the nail or just a nail issue), but i'm now thinking I should have gone half a size up, and hopefully that will alleviate the problem.

I've only done about ~150km in these, and do clean them up after every run, so they still look in great condition, but obviously the soles will show a bit of wear. I expect my chances of returning are slim, so considering a bit of sabotage to attempt a refund by way of being 'faulty'!

Great North Run in just under 4 weeks, so really need to get a new pair quickly and break them in, but at £160 for a new pair, dont really want to just write off the old ones.
Whoever you take them back to will most likely know what you're doing. Your success will depend on whether they can be arsed arguing with you or not. If you do it and get refused initially, don't kick off, just ask to speak to a supervisor/manager. The customer service staff aren't really paid enough to deal with confrontation and it's pretty unfair to put them through it for your own gain. Then the senior staff might take them back just to get rid of you, again depends on their mood/style.

5k Monday morning and 5 miles this morning before work. Hoping to increase milage a little as didn't do many due to heatwave last few weeks
I did the opposite, I ran so much through the heatwave and felt great for it. As soon as the weather turned last Sunday into Monday, I just lost all energy and running was bloody difficult.

13.1 mile today. Not ran half marathon distance in a while, so found it a tough run. Spent the rest of the afternoon curled up on the couch, in pain and listening to the match on 5 live and trying to convince myself that football is a shit sport anyway.

That opinion had somewhat softened by full time :)

Try not to stay on the couch too long mate, active recovery is the way forward, a short walk to the beer shop will have you sorted

Yeah good point. Was wiped out though. Managed to take the dog for a walk and feel a lot better for it now.
I try to go for a recovery run after big numbers, only a couple of miles, people think I'm nuts but it definitely works. Done it after a few marathons and been fine the next day, and then I've gone on the piss after a few marathons and been like a cripple the next day

Its definitely unorthodox but guess it burns any lactic acid off. Not sure I've the cojones for that but will see how I feel after 14 miles, next week

Well done

Half marathon is a massive distance

I’m gonna do one next Sunday which will be my first half for a long time

Missed a fair bit of this thread of late but some good running going on here everyone!!
Finally starting to get more or a running routine but 10k is about my max atm (was half marathons before I got Covid).
Speed is nowhere like it was either and I'm not sure if that will ever return to what it was.

But, it's making me feel good just getting out again and with the gym stuff and yoga I'm getting into a good physical zone again.
Park Run's are still essential for me.

Started to slowly ramp up the mileage and days running. Quite a distance from where I would like to be and got a tough half marathon next weekend, called the beast, which is going to be a real struggle.

Picked up a pair of Hoka Zinals on sale from Sportshoes. Designed for fast trail running up to around Half marathon distance. Ran 10k straight out of the box, including 5k on the road, plus a speed session on hills yesterday and they have been fantastic so far. Fit absolutely perfectly and incredibly comfortable.

Successful midweek training 5 & a bit k completed. On my return run, I observed the train I used to catch to work crossing Doxey Marshes & remembered how zonked out I used to feel even before I boarded said train. Things have definitely changed for the better & my slightly more active lifestyle in retirement is definitely an improvement on being an inactive office slave.

Same here Gaz. Always try to do something after a tough run be it a dog walk or a couple of slow K recovery. Worst thing you can do is finish your run and then collapse on the couch all afternoon.

Did hill sprints session yesterday but then recovered with a slow 5k afterwards.

My last shoes were On Cloudtec. £140, and I got about 500km out of them. I told the girl in the running shop that they always wear out on the outside of my heels (left more than right) and she told me for the first time that I might be over pronating.

I used to get around 800km when I used Brooks shoes, so I've gone back to them. As most of my running is on footpaths (roads) does anyone know if it would be better for me to get trail shoes, with a harder, longer lasting sole? Or are they not as comfortable on footpaths?
