Gels are a bit hit and miss and depend on personal taste, the sis ones are definitely out of the running(get it, running!!) for me straight away as they have a rags badge on the box, the Maurtens are the vanden Plas of gels but expensive. OTE do a good one that has double the amount of carbs than the rest, I'm currently using high5 aqua gels as I got a box cheap, they quite runny(again with the puns!!) But are easy to digest and I like em.5 miles this morning before work. Easy 4 then little faster for last one. Just over 3 weeks until HM going away next weekend on a trip that's been planned and cancelled twice due to covid restrictions so hoping to do my last long run this weekend. Can I ask some advice re fuelling before and during race please. I currently have a banana and coffee before going out then take 2 saltchews and water while out. If doing 9 or 10 miles usually about the 3 mile mark then about 6. Plus during those hot days took on water at times as well. I have read about eating jelly babies during the run helps. I don't like the SIS gels but wondered what else I might want/need so can test. TIA
I would say be careful with the gels, I took too many (5) on my last marathon, result being I stopped for a piss at mile 21, struggled after that and missed out on a sub3 by 14 seconds.
