Berlin mara entry lottery now open, 163 euro for just the entry, anyone want to buy a wife? 163 euro is about 14 million pounds at today's exchange rate
Get over to Valencia for the marathon in December next year! I registered for this year a few days after last year's marathon and paid 60€. Think it went up to 90€ after the first 10k were sold. It's not Boston or Berlin but it's a lovely city and a really flat, fast course.

Yep valencia is on my to do list. I've heard lots of good things about it, €60 is fair. The prices of berlin and boston are crackers, €163 for berlin but add a few extras like insurance and finishers t shirt and it came to €275 for me, bucket list maras though so you just have to pay

Yes I was looking at Valencia the other day. Leaving it late but I noticed places still available for Malaga this year so I might pop over and run that race.

Valencia has sold out for this year but I've seen loads of people on Facebook trying to sell their bib due to injury, lack of training etc. The problem is that their place goes to those on the waiting list and the price has gone up to 120€ or something daft like that. Probably best waiting for next year and signing up as soon as they're released if you're having to factor in flights and accommodation as well.

I'm running a night race in the city this Saturday. Only 15km so using it as part of my training and seeing how fast I can go without pushing too much and injuring myself!

Good luck with that. Yes as you say they sell tickets in waves and then a steep increase onto the waiting list. Not great for the international runner, the waiting list, as no guarantee you will get a spot so a bit of a gamble booking flights etc.

Its pretty sad but I rarely book anything too far in advance until I know what the football fixtures are. Stupidly I promised a mate last year, regardless of the fixture, I will come and watch him race the London Marathon this year. Typically it had to fall on derby day but he is a great lad, worked his socks off, so is well deserving of the support.

Good luck with the 15k race. Nice distance to run. Probably around the 10 mile mark is my preferred distance as the half marathon becomes a real struggle over the last 5k.

Cheers mate. Went really well tonight (well, last night now). I've been running a lot of longer distances but much slower so wasn't expecting too much. My target was 1h10 but the other runners, the crowd and the Alphaflys pulled me round in 1:07:23 (4:30/km). Well happy with that and a 3h30 marathon target doesn't seem quite as daunting now! Lot of work left to do over the next 9 weeks though.

Virtual London mara done this morning, was supposed to do loch lomond today, but I've been injured for a couple of months and done hardly any training, had an entry for the Virtual London so gave it a go this morning, finished in under 4 hours, not a great time but happy to have got it done, although it's a little weird finishing a mara and not a soul having a clue how far you have just ran, the Mrs and kids know but they long past giving a shit about my running!!

Great run that mate. I would say your well on target for achieving that goal.

For a bit of comparison I ran a 1:30:07 half 3 weeks before Manchester Marathon and got around in 3:25, which, in hindsight I probably ran a bit too conservatively on the day.

Just keep chipping away at those long runs. It looks Im going to sign up for Malaga, so similarly the hard work starts here.

Do you mean that you were supposed to run the Loch Ness marathon? Or were you going to swim in Loch Lomond?

Great times them!

I felt like I had a lot left in the legs last night and probably would've taken a good few minutes off my half pb (1:38) if I could've carried on. Started slow with 4:40/km in mind but then got carried away with the other runners. It's amazing how different you run in race conditions. Any plan goes out of the window as soon as the gun goes. Probably something I'll have to concentrate on during the marathon itself and not go out too quick.

Need to up the mileage a bit from here on but really looking forward to it this year. Got a couple of mates coming over from Manchester to run with me which will be nice after running my only two other marathons solo.

Totally agree. Its like a shot of adrenaline the start and its very easy to feel tired earlier just due to the excitement leading up to the event, anxiety of being on time for the race, poor sleep the days before etc. Really tough to get it right on race day and get your nutrition correct also.

Im a bit behind with the long runs (longest 15 recently) so a bit of work to go in that respect. On the plus side having joined a running club I have had a bit more structure to my speed and tempo work. Ran a 19:18 park run on saturday, which is my park run PB, so hopefully that will help me over the next 8 weeks. Im writing all this and have not booked as yet, so once that happens (tomorrow) it should feel much more real.

Yes I ran mine solo. Ran a few halfs with friends (Mcr Half) but I do find it makes me a bit too competitive and I lose track of my own race. Still great to have support out there and makes the overall experience much better.

Just home from a great day watching my daughter run London for the first time in 4h 18m - best time by 10 mins. Gave her a big hug at the end and told her we were 4 up at HT… what a day!

Superb mate. Fantastic effort that. I missed the derby today as I was in London watching a mate race. It was a great day with a great atmosphere. Fortunately we got to see him in Greenwich at 6.5 miles and Embankment at 25 miles.

I did see another blue walking up the stairs in the tube with a Man City bucket hat on, it was not you was it GornikDaze?
