Running thread

Running tech. We've touched on this before, but I thought I'd drop in a recommendation for a new piece of kit I've just bought.

My runs including warm downs are between 45 minutes and 150 minutes, and this gives me plenty of time to catch up on audio books. I've used a number of MP3 players, but they are all a bit hit and miss. It's possible to download from Audible into MP3 format, but it's tiresome and time consuming.

Phones are too big to carry round in my opinion. I've been using the SanDisk Sports Clip, which is ok. It is small, but not easy to navigate or load, and it doesn't have particularly good storage capacity.

My problems have just been resolved with this little beauty - the Sony Walkman NW-A105, with an HDMI memory card inserted. It is an MP3 player, but it has a touch screen interface and Android operating system. It can therefore be loaded up with your normal Android apps, such as Audible and Spotify, and can hold all your favourite books and music. Bluetooth to my running headphones is a synch. It charges by USB3. It tucks away into my running belt, nice and compact. I had it going for 2 hours the other day, and it went from 100% to 75% charge.

It's not the cheapest, but an absolutely brilliant piece of kit. Highly recommended, but maybe not for tri-athletes.

I'm delighted to say that I jogged for well over a mile this morning in only my second run of the year and it was completely pain free !!!

Although I felt sluggish and heavy after putting on a few pounds with reduced exercise recently (nearly 11 stones wet through now!), it was great to be out. I could have gone further but better to do too little instead of too much in recovery I think. I will repeat the run in a couple of days. I will now enjoy the City v Sheffield utd game and a few real ales later.

Keep the long running reports coming as it serves as inspiration. And make the most of your health and fitness. It won't last forever and could disappear in an instant.

I ran 15k yesterday, and 5k today. I struggled today though - still a bit tired after yesterday.
That’s where you can get your best results though. Depending on what you ate and drank yesterday, you may have tested your fitness to a greater extent on today’s 5k than you did on the 15k yesterday but with eating and drinking what you needed to, not doing any damage.

Just got back from a hill sprints session in Heaton, fuck me it was cold out there today, the wind was whistling through.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, feel like I’ve got something now to keep the sessions mixed up a bit, was getting a bit dull continually bashing out the 5k’s. Pushed ourselves a bit more today - 5 longer hill sprints then 5 shorter but on the steeper hill, with a 1k jog to start and get to the hills and a 1k shuffle back to the car.
