Running thread

You’ll need your phone for calls I think mate but not 100% certain. I only take my phone or listen to music on anything over 10k now, can’t be arsed with the hassle for under an hours running.

Cheers mate. I can't be arsed with it, I'm just prone to injury so may come a time where I need it...but its more the music side of things I don't like doing without when I'm running.

Got a question, and this will probably sound ridiculously stupid to most but I'm suddenly realising that I'm now nowhere up to date with technology and gadgets like I once was haha...

For someone who loves music whilst running, but hates carrying a phone, do air pods or galaxy buds or such like allow me to listen to Spotify playlists and stuff without my phone being present, or do I also need a smart watch or something else to be able to do this? And, in the event of an emergency (or more likely, me going over on one of my chocolate ankles again), can I make or receive calls with said air pods/galaxy buds or smart watch etc, again without actually having my phone with me?

Sort of running related so hope this is considered the right thread, I'm lost with all this stuff haha, I just know I don't like carrying a phone about when I'm running even if its strapped to my arm or whatever, its not ideal. Cheers.
Search for Shokz headphones on Amazon. They Bluetooth link to any modern phone.

Many Garmin watches can download Spotify playlists, as can the Sony NW-A105, although the Sony is quite expensive.

My personal combo is Aftershocks headphones with Sony NW-A105 playing either Audible books or Spotify in offline mode.

Cheers mate, I'll look into that!

Apple watch i use and air pods. I download music, podcasts, music onto my watch and do it that way. Can be a bit fiddly getting it onto my watch at first, but thats probably more me than the devices. Like you say, bit of a pain in the ass carrying your phone round all the time.

I hated running with a phone too, but I found having a running belt was best way and you wouldn’t even know a phone is in there as it’s just like part of your belly!

Ive got this one -

I went through this when I first started out, the only answer I found was that to go phoneless you will either need a smartwatch or somesort of mp3 player and some bluetooth headphones.
Personally I think the garmins are the best way of doing it, as you dont have t9 plug it into a computer and all that shite, although you will need a spotify premium account for it to work.
Some of the other options mp3 player clip type thingy, lower end smart watch, etc I would say need plugging into computers to download music, which is a bit of a faff, but then again its hardly breaking rocks for a living.
As for headphones any old bluetooth heaphones will go with any of the options above as far as i know.
With the being able make a call without a phone, I dont think they have got that far with these things yet, maybe a flare gun could be an option? With the added bonus of not many people wanting to get in your way when they spot you phoneless carrying a flaregun in your hand?
Seems to be a few other options rather than garmin at the bottom of this link.

Thank you @willipp @Rammy Blue and @gaz76

Much appreciate the advice. All things considered, it sounds like I might go with the flare gun :-) only joking, but yeah I was really lost as to how far things have gone these days...don't know what's possible and what's not!

Lovely day for a run btw, hope anyone who's out enjoys!

Apple do cellular watches that you can make and receive calls on though I think you need either a dual sim or separate contract. I use that basic WiFi series three model which can make and receive calls whilst in Bluetooth range of the phone.
