Running thread

Is anyone out running on the roads in this icy weather? I'm 14 days without a run now as I'm resting a strain at the back of my knee. I'm missing running, but not sure I'd be out in this anyway.

Went out on the Bridgewater Canal towpath from Deansgate to Pomona & back at 11.00 this morning once it was less cold. Some patches of ice around, but I walked in those areas.

Not ran since last Friday and hate it. Had walk yesterday and today at lunchtime both times really icy. Saw 5 individual runners yesterday inside 20 minutes. It was -2 and I was struggling to stay on feet at times. Hoping to get out this Friday

I really struggled today because I hadn't run for a week, and I struggled with the cold air on my lungs. However, I'm glad I went out as if I'd left it any longer, I'd start to lose my running fitness.

I've been out a few nights this week

As others have said, definitely not. Ice is pretty much the only weather condition (expect maybe extreme hailstones) when it's unwise to go out running. There's a high chance of injury and other dangers so it's just not worth it.

I managed to get out for a hour in the sunshine on the snow covered trails.

Apart from a few icy stretches, which involved more of a shuffle / walk, it was mostly snow underfoot and quite safe to run on. It was hard work though, average pace down to 11.30 min per mile which is my slowest ever! Typically its 9.30 min per mile on the trail and closer to 8.00 on the road.

Overall most enjoyable and refreshing though!

Bizarrely I've always felt it feels more precarious walking on ice rather than running (maybe trainers are a variable here).
Snow and frost I've done, however was out walking my daughter's dog earlier and the ice is sharp and hard on some paths which would be treacherous I reckon.

Had notification that many South Manchester Park Runs are off tomorrow, but I've still got that hamstring injury anyway.
