Running thread

Just got to Stretford Parkrun to have it cancelled at the last minute after already having diverted from Peel Park which was cancelled early doors. Correct decision given that it had rained on icy surfaces turning all the paths into longitudinal ice rinks.
Will try again next week in Stafford. Third time lucky?

It’s warmer next week, or it might be more appropriate to say it’s less cold.

Bramhall is doing Christmas Eve & Christmas Day, so I’ll hopefully be able to do at least one. It’ll be my first for a while as a combination of the cold and a newborn baby mean I’ve only done one short in the past month or so. Makes me more inclined to do the Santa Run on the 24th & take it easy .

Thinking of doing the race to the stones in July anyone done it before?
I'll be walking it ....did the Windermere lap in May this year took me 22hrs 15 mins it was 47 milesrace to stones is 62 miles

It is one of a couple I have looked at. Made my ultra debut last year (42.5 miler) and although tough never felt a high like it for the couple of days afterwards.

The wall ultra from Carlisle to Newc (72 miler) is my preference but the next 3/4 mths will guide on what is realistic. Sadly a tough year of work ahead and a current injury might dampen expectations.

Is anyone out running on the roads in this icy weather? I'm 14 days without a run now as I'm resting a strain at the back of my knee. I'm missing running, but not sure I'd be out in this anyway.

Sadly injury has curtailed my running currently with my disappintment magnified by being in Malaga last week to run the Marathon but instead stood and watched it instead.

If you are injured its a good time to give your body a break, rest up and go again in the new year. No point in running on ice and risking aggravating your knee any more.

I managed 5km this morning after a three week break, and the pain in my knee returned, though not as bad as before. I think another break until the new year is on the cards. I might try and get an appointment with my GP. There should be one of those available sometime in 2023.

Sorry to read about so many injuries in here. I hope they're soon in the past. I guess if you had to have an injury, midwinter is probably the least disruptive time of year for many(?).

For me, I've been blighted by injuries and illness for quite a bit of this year: Covid 3 times, a couple of chest infections and then recently (and currently) a couple of cracked ribs. Also, insane working hours.

Add it all together and you get very little running.

I'm pleased to have got out for a gentle 5-miles this afternoon - my first exercise of any kind in nearly a month. It's very frustrating when your fitness drops to near zero but I guess you just have to suck it up, be philosophical about it and crack on!

Good advice.
Not easy as a runner having to sit it out, especially over Xmas when it’s the kind of routine that I for one absolutely need.

This hamstring tendonitis won’t shift too easily but feels less sore today.

I swapped out with a 30 min rowing session & swim (& some upper body work) yesterday so I’ve got that as a back up now.
