Running thread

The thing with shoes is that we all have different feet, gait etc., so what good for one person may be shite for another.

The usual advice is to go to a specialist running shop (hopefully the guys on here can recommend one in Manchester) and try on a number of pairs to see which ones suit you best. A good shop will do a 'gait analysis' where they look at how your feet hit the ground etc. and make recommendations based on that. For example, I overpronate on my left foot so I wear trainers that give extra support.

The bad news is that you're likely to need more than one pair of trainers if you're going to train for, and run, a marathon...
Thanks for this. I've read up on the gait analysis - I'll definitely go and get it done.

I do have various pairs of (mainly trail) running shoes. I have tended to buy cheap and run them into the ground, which I presume isn't a very good approach.

Done me know harm doing it that way.

I have 6 pairs and mix them up randomly. if one starts to fade then i chuck and replace.

Yep probably about 12 pairs!!
As far as running shops are concerned, I would advise to steer clear of the big ones, runners need etc, the so called experts in store have been anything but whenever I have been in.
Run north west in wilmslow, running bear in Alderley edge and sports feet in Hazel Grove are all good, they are "run" by runners and the staff have great knowledge of products and I've never had any hard sell of them any time I've been in.

I need some new shoes. Training for a marathon, mainly road running (I have trail shoes too). I have up to £150 to spend.

Any suggestions?

I love the Asics Novablast 3's, they're a neutral trainer, really responsive to solid ground, feel like I'm bouncing along. Might feel unstable to some and maybe some will question the grip in the rain. They're £130ish.

Tempted to upgrade to the Superblasts but £190 is a lot for a training shoe. Not far off the price of a carbon shoe (which I have for the actual race).

Try Up and Running on Deansgate.

I've not used that branch in particular, but have used several of their branches nationwide. They do free gait analysis on the treadmill and have never been too pushy in terms of sales, and offer honest advice in terms of which brands and models would suit you.

Only just seen the posts @kerem gokmen put on.

@BlueHammer85 and others, be mindful of how you are speaking to other board members. This bloke helped countless blues out in Istanbul and is clearly a well read and educated man. It takes balls to write in length in a foreign language, something I'm guessing not many on here can do. There are cultural differences with how some people give and receive information, Kerem has done it in good will.

This doesn't need to go further. If you don't like what someone posts, ignore them. The guy has shared info from first-hand experience and been shot down. A form of bullying and bang out of order.

How's about you get down off your high horse and read it again? "This doesn't need to go further" "form of bullying" what a load of twaddle, the lads were having a light hearted bit of Craic and were hardly hounding the lad off the forum, I really doubt there was any call for your self important lecture, there's plenty of mods on here to pull anyone who crosses the line, as you say yourself "if you don't like what someone posts ignore them"
