Running thread

Running shoes. How long do they last? I got a pair of Nike shoes about six months ago. The heel is still bouncy, but the front of the shoes are not giving much support. They feel like they have lost their cushion.

These are the first running shoes I've had. I run around three times a week, normal for 5-8 Kms.

Any recommendations for a new set of well cushioned shoes?
Typically 400-500 miles but that depends on various factors. If you track your runs on Strava, you can include your shoes and it will tell you how much mileage they've had.

For new shoes, I would never follow recommendations; your feet and gait will not be the same as theirs. Instead, go to a specialist running shop and try out a range of pairs. The staff can analyse your gait if it helps.

Hmm. Over 50's men, fuck all, they only gave stuff out to the winner of each category.
Sorry mate thought looking at the time you were a mature woman should we say.
Not bad though if you've not trained at all. The top guys do around 60 mins don't they. You need to lose the walk breaks....

Well done....don't run again until muscle soreness has gone..........make haste SLOWLY.

Muscle soreness lasted for a few days, which was concerning, but went away just before a week in Spain. Felt good enough to run again, so did two 4k runs whilst away, seemed much easier running along a promenade with the sound of the sea in your ear. No muscle soreness this time, well nothing that lasted more than a couple of hours anyway.

After a couple of busy weeks after holiday, now running every 3 days. Shaved 4 mins from my first timed run, so going in the right direction. Will need to start adding distance on soon, but still having to stop a couple of times running 5k, so want to try and do that in one go. Currently 33 min for 5k

Also rowing on non-running days, got my 5k time down to 22.47 (initially 28 mins 4 months ago)

Any tips for suspected runner's knee? Recently been having a small/medium level of pain on the back and inside of my knee (side closest to the other knee). Don't really want to stop exercising altogether but I feel it would be unwise to go running at this point.

Is it still okay to use an exercise bike? Or should I focus on upper body only until it feels sorted?

Calm down stop racing the clock.....be consistent in your work. The world does not care if you row 5k in 13 mins and you shouldn't either ! Prepare diligently, listen to your body. Eat and sleep right.......and your times will take care of themselves. WELL DONE.
