Running thread

This is a fantastic thread.

Thanks especially to Stuuuu, a lot of your tips I've implemented and my 5k has gone from 27 mins to 24 and the 10k down to 49 from 58-1hr.

I was wondering if anyone can help, in the last two weeks my calf has been injured, only hurts when I run. Even after half hour of stretching it feels tight when I start running and then after about 5 mins it seizes up and it feels like a electric shock/calf is so tight I'm limping. Only happens on the same leg.

Any suggestions?

Shooting Pains and what feels like someones smashed a large nail through the thighs? I get this :(

No run today for me, but did manage a 7k last night. rather than quickness going for endurance last week or so

Not been in here for a while (as I have yet again been a lazy tw@t and not getting out for a run), however went and did the 10km at Tatton Park last night.

It was warm in the sun but we weren't going for pace, just a completion with my mate (who has also been indulging a fair amount during the Covid era).

Did it in an hour but didn't really break a sweat - few beers and a curry afterwards...........

Doing a final run around Ashton today. Moving tomorrow.

Purchased some ice/warm packs from amazon aimed at shin splints that arrive today. Hopefully they work.

I have noticed that when my runs are faster Strava shows i don't burn as many calories compared to a slower run

Same distance?

Do any of you use Strava? If you do, how accurate do you find it? I've been running for around 2 years and used Strava religiously. My BIL has just got one of these Garmin watches and the times/distances are way out in comparison.
I use a Zepp (formerly Amazfit) watch. It tells me I do 5k in 29 mins today, but Strava says 28.53 as it uses different maps to plot the same GPS route. Bit annoying but I can live with it

Runs are annoying. Did a 10k in 1hr 13 secs. So close to under 1hr. Week after went off strong was certain I smashed that barrier only to be 30 seconds slower. 3rd time lucky this Sunday hopefully. Last 2k is where I lose it. Is 10k too short for gels?

I’d say so mate, eat something an hour or so before then go, can’t see why you’d need a gel during a 10k

I do my long run at 6.30am on a Sunday morning usually. So it's wake up and get out. Don't get time for breakfast until after.

Read caffeine might have a better effect
