Running thread

If I keep up running 27 miles a week (which I intend to build on steadily) and remain injury free I may sack off the gym as I've not touched weights for a year, press ups have been fine.

I’m at 75 miles this month... want 150 a month if possible... 3k miles in total running and on bike in the year is my goal.
Ace that, I want to get into cycling but feel I wouldn’t really make use of it. I like the simplicity of running. Shoes, watch & headphones

Anybody else get annoyed with gormless walkers not giving way or blocking the pavement?

*sorry, was a bit pissed off when I wrote this. Always great when people acknowledge and give way which is met by a "thanks" and thumbs up from me. Just amazed that with so many places shut and in the middle of a pandemic people still can't be arsed to politely step aside. A petty rant but wanted to get it off my chest.

Your not alone, my current "favourites" are the ones that stare at you from the other side of a huge puddle, theres only one small path through and they just decide "fuck you, you can wait until I dawdle along the path" great fun when just running straight through said puddle, water water everywhere!!

I would love to run somewhere like Llandudno. The north promenade is very wide, so you can almost guarantee no interference from other people. It is 3k long, so you could easily do 6k there and back without ascending a single metre.

If you felt more ambitious, you could run around the Great Orme - around 9k, with some uphills and downhills. You could go to the top of the Orme and down again - around 8k with a 200m ascent. Definitely not one I would fancy.

Or you could cover almost any length running around the area between the two Ormes and the West Shore on nice wide footpaths.

I ran around Derwentwater last summer. It was flat, sunny, early and fantastic in all repects. A few days later I tried running to Walla Crag. Big mistake. Uphill was exhausting and down the other side was a scramble.

They sound fantastic places to run, when restrictions are lifted I may give them a try. I used to enjoy digging out my fell shoes and running up Mam Torr when visiting family in the Peak District. A stop at the top to take in the view was ace.

I did a fell race around Derwent a couple of years a go in summer. Beautiful scenery.

Have a look at the Conwy half marathon normally early November starts and finishes in Conwy but runs through Llandudno up the Orme rd and back down through Deganwy
There is plenty of uphill but the downhill is rapid
Possibly my favourite race

Definitely. I turn 60 in summer, and one of my running goals is to run a half marathon when I'm 60. I'll bear that one in mind.

12k today, just shy of an hour, around the lakes near me. Went late afternoon, thinking it would be quieter, but the bad weather early morning resulted on It being busier than usual. Thoroughly enjoyable although on the muddy paths I was a bit worried about twisting my knee. Last K I went all in and ran 4:02. Starting to add this to my runs of late as I previously I was seeing no evidence of improvement.

Just to echo the views above, some of the walkers out and about don't have the brains they were born with.

last week a woman stood in the middle of the path with both her arms outstretched, to ensure I kept my social distance. Clearly to stupid to realise if she moved to the side, rather than being an idiot, I could have doubled the social distance from her. Thankfully nobody dived in a bush today to get out of the way.

Agree completely. Have given up running in parks at the moment as there’s too many people about, but always give way myself when out on the pavements by running on the roads (feel like KDB checking both shoulders every few seconds) or stopping completely and letting walkers past if there’s a driveway/side road to step into.

The ones that really annoy me though are the massive groups who insist walking side by side, 4/5 abreast, likely not from the same household. Had one group on my last run who were smirking as I moved onto the road to avoid going near them on a ridiculously wide pavement, very annoying!
