Running thread

I know it's totally different, but I'm tempted to enter the Manchester Marathon. This weekend's BMVHM was my fifth, all done since first lockdown. At the end of it, I still had the legs to continue running (though probably not the same distance).

I trained for a marathon when in my twenties, but I never entered one. It's kind of a bucket list ambition of mine. I would probably be one of the six hour finishers. Just thinking about it makes me shudder.

I have no inclination to do a full marathon but everyone I know that has done one as a “bucket list” run have said it was the best decision they made.

Further to what others have posted already. It's just time and distance. Build up the long run by a couple of miles a week and cut back every third week or so. This will build the confidence and stamina and you are well on the way.

Now is the time! You can already run over a half marathon so take advantage of your fitness. You could have continued yesterday, to - what, 15 miles? Maybe 16? Bear in mind that marathon training typically only goes up to about 18 miles.

Cut back? What is this cut back? The lawn?

You will smash it. If you are already up to 13 and you have 6 mths to get to a position where you can run 26. Lots of time.

I have never ran a full marathon, so similarly thought this would be a good time to tick it off as Im already in a reasonable place fitness wise.

Isn’t that the HM route? I’ve done that - starts near the Swamp and finishes at the cricket ground.

Looks like the marathon does as well. Pretty sure I did a 10k once and that took us out to Old Trafford also. Being from East Mcr I only really know Sale on the proposed route, so not really a route I fancy too much.

I was raised in Wythenshawe, and am familiar with the whole of the route. It's pretty flat, which will be a bonus.

I’ve done the Mcr HM twice. It’s a pretty flat boring route but good if you’re chasing a PB as it’s fast. Pretty much the A56.

Yes I got my PB there in 2013 and qualified for London good for age time as well. The course was actually a bit short (discovered a couple of years later), which was a bonus!

Finishing one is a great sense of achievement.
as a guide double your 1/2 mara time and add 20 minutes.
This will be the first time ive trained through the summer for one be weird doing the training on light sunny mornings rather than cold and wet dark mornings.
