Running thread

10 x 200m hill sprints tonight with a decent warm up and cool down. About 8.5km total.

On 20km for the week.

Anyone know of any decent races this month or next?

Delamere trail half is a good one next weekend, stockport daffodil is coming up,

Essar Four Villages Half Marathon looks good

Petzl night runner at Rivington as well.

It will be a shame if you never manage a marathon owing to physical limitations. I recommend the average runner should aspire to run at least one and maybe two or three. The extra mileage, variety of training and diet takes fitness to a different level with secondary improvements at shorter distances, even down to 5k.
Haha.
This has certainly made me think a little.
Was chatting with someone at work just before Xmas and she's booked in two (in Europe) this year.

I'm fairly sure I wouldn't be able to with my current leg situation. Gets sore around the 11k mark.

OK. Hopefully the injury can be sorted as you think, even if it takes a while. A marathon could be possible sometime in the future. Good luck.

Just looking forward to longer distances again.
Have to fit in all my other exercises too (strength training, yoga, pilates) and fancy taking up tennis again.
But running is integral to all these. Important bit is to keep on moving...

I tried to do a fast run today. Died after 4k.

Putting on 2.5 kgs and a bad case of man flu in December have not helped proceedings!

Tried out my ASICS Nimbus 25s for the first time. They're definitely comfy, but not convinced they are a particularly fast shoe... but I am a workman blaming his tools lol.

With my son at Lancashire county cross country champs in Blackburn this morning and it’s a beautiful day for running. Gonna be a mud bath but he’ll love that and hopefully he does well.

It's great to see so much activity in here, with lots of good running and healthy habits. I always enjoy reading about how you lads are getting on.

After a period of injury, illness and weight gain, I finally feel like I'm moving forward with good habits and a path to health and fitness.

My weight has started coming down, I've largely cut out the junk and I'm gradually getting back into the swing of things with exercise.

I've never been one for New Year's resolutions but this happens to have come at a good time for me to get on the case with it.

Here's to a great and healthy 2024 for all of us.

I'm just an overweight retired FOC who has made slow running part of his weekly activity. I appreciate there's others on here who can run further and faster but I just enjoy doing what I can do on my own terms.

Its the best thing about running the only real competition is with yourself and times are really only personal to you.

Also everyones motivations are different, I love being out in nature/fresh air as long as you get out of it what you want, that is the most important thing.

5 miles in the tank towards HM training. Meant to be 7 but waited in on new washing machine being delivered. Supposed to be between 7-11 of course didn't turn up until half 11. Wanted to get back in time to relax for match so still happy to get out and get 5 in

Absolutely this mate, I'm always saying the 25 stone bloke who is chugging round a marathon in 9 hours is working far harder than the whippets at the front, the mental fortitude to get it done that them folk have is huge.
Most in the running community is are hugely supportive of each other as its pretty much understood your only ever racing against yourself and your own goals...... well that's apart from that Dutch bloke who is currently getting miles in front of me in the montane virtual spine race! It's an ultra not a sprint pal!!

Could not agree more. One of the most difficult things when running longer distances is holding it together mentally. Im relying on music at the moment, as I am not quite there yet. Those who stack up the hours to train for a marathon and then, as you say chug round in 9 hours, that takes some mental strength, not just race day but all the hours of training and suffering to get there.

One of the best thing about doing an Ultra to be honest is the lack of competitiveness. You cannot go all in at full whack, so you just run around at a comfy pace chatting to people as you go.
