last 400.. legend

Just watched that a 3rd time ,what a race ,brilliant stuff, reminded me of Thomas Bye"r "The Hare ,Norwegian I think who led from the front ,a novice known as a pace setter,.... but ended up winning I think!
Pacesetters aren't supposed to win

I'm after some advice.
I've never really had any injuries or joint problems while i've been running. So i'm a little stumped with a small niggle i've now got. I run 5k twice a week.
A few weeks ago, i suddenly felt pain in my left knee (right in the joint/under knee cap) at the very start of my run. I limped/walked a bit, and after about 1km, the pain eased and i was able to run the rest of the 5k with little to no pain.

This cycle has repeated every run since. I've not noticed much, if any pain or swelling during normal activities.
I've tried resting a week, and increasing my runs. Nothing makes a difference. Same pain at the start that goes away.

Any ideas?

I used to suffer from something similar when I started couch to 5k about 3 years ago.
Doing some stretches before and after running seemed to sort it out.
And I always do at least 5 minutes of walking before I start running to warm up.

I had runners knee last year and that used to come on fairly early in the run. Quad exercises and manipulation of the patella before run and morning/night has fixed it. Sometimes it's the patella irritating structures below the knee. Took seeing a physio to diagnose though.

The fact yours gets easier though stumps me. Maybe the first part of the run activates the muscles enough to pull the patella into the correct place.

Can't see it being tendinitis as that would get worse too.

A physio would be your best bet.

I always walk at quite a pace, for about 15 minutes before I run, seems to help warm up the leg muscles.

This is the single most effective exercise I've ever done, known as The Horse stance ...it is said to strengthen every lower body muscle....I derivo benefit from it,every time I can be disciplined enough to try it.

It hurts. I generally manage just ove 60 Seconds ...putting the stop watch on my mobile ,then hiding the timer and only looking when I finish the stance . Legs always feel more powerful the next day, gait is improved, helps me at footy ....I'm sure it helps avoid injury ie hamstring knee pain, ankle mobility etc etc
Costs nothing ,but needs your self discipline..to keep trying it.

I completed the Malta marathon on Sunday in 4:30. Only my 3rd marathon and feel as though I'm still learning the process, it's a shame I'm not 20 years younger.. While I was slower than during London I felt stronger at the end and, as a result, enjoyed it more. The course was largely very good although sharing a dual carriageway with traffic was interesting. 1,100 completed the full marathon and about 3,000 the half. Overall, I thought it was a great event, albeit got lucky with the glorious weather.

Think whoever is in charge of the Manchester marathon has lost the plot, they have a new route this year which is absolutely shite and they have just released the finishers tee shirt which is also bizarre.

What's there reasoning behind not just picking the same route and sticking with it year on year?

Are they trying to find the flattest route to make it as fast as possible?

Think the official reason given was they wanted to overcome the crowding issues they had at the end by moving the finish to the uni where there is more room, that's fair enough.
But they have taken out the deansgate section and added in some really tight corners, last year was mayhem for the first few miles with folk falling over each other, looking at this year's it's even tighter at the start.
Don't think they have gone for the speed aspect as south Manchester is pretty flat anyways

Please tell me it avoids Sale as I'm really bored with 2 seperate runs ruining Sundays every year :)

Just completed Parkrun #130 at Peel Park in 29:55.
Was great weather for looking at spring flowers, Canada geese and swans this morning. However, not so good conditions for an overweight retired bloke to plod round a park twice!
