Running thread

Have been finding running a bit harder than usual this week, and my HR through my Garmin was flying up about an extra 40bpm at the start of every run then dropping down after a couple of miles.
Thought it was just recovering from the ultra/mara back to back, but had a rasping sore throat this morning so did a COVID test and hey presto Ive got COVID, keep an eye on yer Garmin's lads, I must have had it all week and was just pushing through

How's everyone coping in this heat?

I love it but I just did a 10k at dinner and I'm running slower with a much higher heart rate.

Was genuinely just popping into here to ask you more experienced folk the same question!

Went out for a 5k last night after work around 4.30, and same tonight around 5pm (now cooling off in the garden!)

I've only started running in the last couple of months so this is my first experience of 'heat', and my God does it make a difference!

Really struggled but managed to get round with a couple of stops for a swig of water, but can't say I had much fun!!

Will try and get out in the morning for the next week or so until it cools off, but glad to hear that even you guys are struggling in it!

The trick is morning and evenings in this weather, it makes a significant difference to performance and how your run goes.

When I'm doing 10k or less I enjoy the heat and don't mind midday but that's an easy distance for me, that'll be less or more for others.

Fluids are important, electrolytes too but depends how far your running as well.

I've got to be honest: I spend the year waiting for this weather. I absolutely love it. It's an excuse to get off the road and onto the trails.

I agree that we have to make adaptations though. As @MCFC1993 says, you can avoid the most noticeable elements by getting out early or late.

I've been making and sharing videos with my thoughts on these types of matters recently so if you don't mind, I'll re-share one that I did on this very topic.

Do any of you wear compression shorts ?
Always put off by throught and I’ve always ran commando wearing shorts.
But I’ve had testicular pain and wondering if this could be a reason as docs have checked and been unable to diagnose so far.

Gothenburg half marathon tomorow.
Been in and out of doctors and hospital since marathon a month ago as internal pains lower back, belly, balls - had blood tests and scans but still no real diagnosis, antibiotics not really worked, I think it’s some sort of trapped nerve somewhere, I’ll plod round tomorow and then going to have a full 2 weeks off.

Chester Half for me on Sunday.

Struggled with 3 or 4 different injuries over the past 2 months, currently dealing with a pelvis problem, so I've just been easy running for 2 weeks, did my first tempo last night, 10k in sub 44mins just wanted to see if the speed is there, so that was promising.

My only half to date is a 1:38 from Wilmslow in March but I died in the last 8km. So going to go out really easy for this one and try to pick it up in the 2nd half.

Ran 3 times in Chester and died in every race, so hopefully not this time.

Good luck mate

What’s the general advice for treating groin strains?

Very annoying, in the groove training wise, lost 10kg and don’t want to lose momentum, but obviously will need to rest and change training load for a bit.
