Running thread

My 15 year old son does a few 5k runs a week for boxing.

For the runners in this thread would 22 mins be a good time?

I read a lot about ParkRun in here - it's great to see so many people taking part in a healthy & wholesome activity like that.

Strangely, I've never taken part in a ParkRun (apart from the Junior ParkRun a couple of times with the kids).

My 13-year-old daughter has signed up for the Junior Great North Run (2.5 miles) in September to raise money for her poorly sister. Can 13-year-olds take part in ParkRun? It could be good training for her.

I'm still churning out the odd video on my YouTube channel as a way of a) motivating myself and b) hopefully sharing useful info and tips with others. Here's one that I've just made on the subject of why we should mostly run slowly.

I'm always grateful for any likes/subscriptions so that the channel can grow and hopefully reach a few more people.

Thanks Stu. I'm one of your subscribers, and I've really enjoyed your videos. Top work. Good advice about running slowly. I've been doing this for quite a while now - probably since I turned 63.

Edited. Yeah, loads of 13 year olds do Parkrun. It would be ideal for your daughter to train at. There's a rule about young kids running with their parents, but I think that is younger than aged 13 though.

Awesome. Thanks mate. I'll aim to take her along. Yeah, I looked it up and 5-year-olds can take part in ParkRun (both the Junior ParkRun and the normal).

Thanks so much for subscribing and making such nice comments about the videos. You've genuinely made my day. I'm on the lookout for more topics to cover in future videos so let me know if there's anything that would be useful.

Where did you find the table? Have you got the link?
Found it here:

I wouldn't take it as gospel though, just a rough guide.

The best way is to go with the age grading based on the world record for that age group. Runners World have a calculator for anyone running, although most do parkrun and have this calculated for them.

Their definitions are:
  • 100% = world record
  • 90% = world class
  • 80% = national class
  • 70% = regional class
  • 60% = local class
